Fans are excited about a potential clash between The Rock and Roman Reigns, but they didn’t want it to overshadow Cody Rhodes’ storyline. While it initially seemed to be going in that direction, cooler heads prevailed and fans will see Cody Rhodes face off against Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40 instead.

According to Dave Meltzer’s report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cody Rhodes is set for a rematch with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, where WWE plans to portray Rhodes as a Rocky-style underdog. The promotional video script for Reigns vs. Rhodes ties Rhodes into Philadelphia, depicting him as a symbol of the city’s resilience and spirit.

The script emphasizes the theme of embracing the underdog mentality, portraying Rhodes as a Philadelphia-style Rocky underdog. It highlights the notion that being an underdog is not something to be feared, but rather embraced as a source of strength and determination.

”There is a script for a Reigns vs. Rhodes promotional video to build up WrestleMania, which tied Rhodes into Philadelphia, with the concept being here in Philadelphia we know the American Dream and we know the American Nightmare, we know good times and hard times and that being an underdog isn’t something to be feared, it’s something to be embraced.

One person got a script for a VO and noted that Rhodes in the script is going to be pushed as a Philadelphia style Rocky underdog.”

A fan on Twitter also commented on the aforementioned report and claimed that it means Cody Rhodes will defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

On last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Cody Rhodes delivered a slap to The Rock, much to the amusement of Roman Reigns. The incident has left fans curious about WWE’s plans for Rhodes as he gears up to face The Tribal Chief at WrestleMania 40. It remains to be seen how WWE will continue to portray Rhodes as the underdog in this highly anticipated showdown.

The Rock May Never Beat Cody Rhodes In Popularity Despite His Heel Turn

The Rock turned heel for the first time in 21 years last month and it has been a blast for fans as they are more or less having a nostalgia tour every single week. The Great One has consistently been channeling his late 90s Corporate Rock persona as well as his 2003 Hollywood Rock gimmick.

As pointed out by Wrestle Ops on Twitter, the highest merchandise seller for last week was Cody Rhodes. As for The Rock himself, he was positioned at the fifth position.

This is a huge deal as it has been made evident that Cody Rhodes is more popular than The Rock at the moment. In fact, The Rock’s current run heading towards WrestleMania 40 might just be his final run in the company, period. This is especially because of the fact that Cody Rhodes is far too big a star already and will likely eclipse The Rock after WrestleMania 40.
