Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson made a monumental return to WWE at WrestleMania 40, captivating fans worldwide and evoking the nostalgia of WWE’s attitude era. Despite his electrifying performance, which included memorable moments like confronting a WWE referee during Night 1’s tag match, opinions have been divided.
While some hail it as an iconic ‘Final Boss’ moment, others have criticized his actions. Amidst this discourse, the Jumanji star has recently weighed in on cancel culture, as he expressed discontent with the prevailing trend, asserting that it strips individuals of their authenticity.
Dwayne Johnson’s Candid Reflection on Cancel Culture
In a recent appearance on Fox & Friends, Dwayne Johnson offered his candid opinion on the prevalent cancel culture in today’s society. When asked about what he considers important regardless of its popularity or societal approval, the actor emphasized the importance of authenticity.
The WWE star shared that it is very important for him to be “real” as he expressed his discontent with the cancel culture, arguing that it encourages people to suppress their authentic selves in order to avoid criticism. He said,
“To be real and to be direct and to be open and to be transparent….that’s important to me—In today’s easy cancel culture world and cancel culture, woke culture, this culture, that culture division, etc., that really bugs me.”
Johnson further stressed the importance of authenticity and providing genuine, truthful responses, even if they might provoke discomfort or disagreement. “If you ask me something, a real answer is important,” he said before adding, “And the truthful answer is important, and that may get people upset and may p— people off.”
Johnson, however, emphasized that he is “okay” with how people respond to his honest and authentic opinions, as he acknowledged that it took him time to realize the significance of staying true to himself despite potential backlash.
Dwayne Johnson Will Not Repeat Joe Biden Endorsement
During his interview with Fox News, the Jungle Cruise star also revealed that he will not be repeating his endorsement of President Biden in this election. The actor had earlier endorsed Biden during the 2020 Presidential election.
Johnson clarified that he had decided against endorsing the president again because he realized that his previous endorsement had contributed to division, something that deeply troubles him. He said during his interview,
“Am I going to do that again this year? That answer’s no. I’m not going to do that—Because what I realized that what that caused back then was something that tears me up in my guts back then and now, which is division. And that got me.”
The 51-year-old actor, however, expressed a desire to “bring our country together.” He also emphasized his intention to keep his political views private, recognizing the significant influence he holds. Additionally, he dismissed any speculation about running for political office, stating that his current focus is on his family and children.
