Despite Her Many Explicitly Naked Scenes, Sydney Sweeney Reveals the One 'Euphoria' Moment That Left Her Devastated

After her roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and Euphoria, Syndey Sweeney quickly became one of the biggest crushes of Hollywood enthusiasts!  Her character in Sam Levinson’s Euphoria, Cassie, is a total mess, though. One bad decision after the other on her part quickly made Cassie one of the most infuriating characters we have met.

However, at times, viewers can do nothing but feel sad for Sydney Sweeney’s character and hope for an eventual redemption arc. In fact, the actress herself feels sorry for the high schooler she’s playing, and there is one scene in particular that completely broke her due to the compassion she has for Cassie. And no, it’s none of the explicit scenes she has done on the show.

Despite the fact that Sydney Sweeney has done many explicit scenes in the over-the-top high school drama, none of those scenes make her feel sorry for her character as one moment in season two where Cassie is sitting in front of her vanity in the bathroom and is surrounded by flowers as tears fill up in her eyes.

Talking to Deadline about how the scene “Truly broke her” and made her empathetic toward her character, Sweeney stated,

“It was a scene where she’s sitting in her bathroom and she’s surrounded by all the flowers. I don’t know what it was about it, but that scene just completely broke me — or Cassie. After that moment, I knew that I had so much sympathy for her and empathy for her, even though she was making so many terrible decisions. I hoped that maybe there was an ounce of the audience that would be able to feel empathy for her as well.”

On how the scene showed Cassie in a completely different light than she is usually seen in, Sweeney stated,

“I think that it was the fear of being alone. She went so deep inside herself that she’s worried that she’ll never be able to come back from it. And I think that she knew that she was falling down this path and she is willing to continually fall.”

Sweeney couldn’t have put it in better words. The compassion that the actress (as well as some fans), feels toward her perhaps stems from the fact that we have all been Cassie at some point in our lives, to whatever extent. All we truly want from season three now is a beautiful redemption arc for the character! Hopefully, Sam Levinson feels the same way we do.

While Sweeney’s n*de scenes in the series might not affect her as much, her father and grandfather do not seem to be a fan and we totally understand where they come from. During her appearance on the Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist podcast, the Madame Web actress recalled her family’s reactions to her explicit scenes.

“I didn’t prepare my dad at all. So he decided he was going to watch it without telling me, with his parents. My dad and grandpa turned it off and walked out.”

However, Sweeney found her support in the females of the family. The actress stated that her mother was the only one prepared for what was about to go down on the show. As for her grandmother, Sweeney stated, “My grandma, she’s a big supporter of mine.” In fact, when Sweeney invited her entire family to Euphoria’s premiere, it was her grandparents that had a positive reaction to all the nudity. She recalled, “They said I have the best t*ts in Hollywood.” We are all for supportive grandparents!

You can stream both seasons of Euphoria on Max.
