In the documentary of his 1986 film Platoon, the star recalled an incident that still scares him when he thinks about it. During the shoot, there was a scene where they had to depict US Army personnel intimidating a young Vietnamese girl. Therefore, to make it convincing, director Oliver Stone decided to bring out the real emotions from the girl, who wasn’t a pro actor, which led to him shouting at her harshly. Seeing this, an adviser from the Philippine Constabulary Police couldn’t take it, and pulled a gun on Stone, right before Depp stopped him. In the documentary, the Rango star said:

“She couldn’t have been more than nine. Oliver’s strategy into bringing real tears to the little girl’s face was a bit much. He raised his voice, and it went on for far longer than it needed to. These people aren’t actors. [The police member] reached in for his weapon, it was coming out, and, it was moving forward, and I went ‘Fuck’, and I put my arms round his wrist. That was a very heated, scary fucking moment. […] That was bad. I’ll never forget it,”

Therefore, after negotiations, the police officer warned the crew not to repeat this behavior ever again on set, which led to the filmmaker’s life being saved and the film being shot, and not him.
