Taron Egerton’s fame and popularity has its roots in the Kingsman franchise. The actor has appeared in two movies in a lead role and there has been a question of the third installment. But is it still on the card?
Matthew Vaughn’s super-spy thriller franchise is infested with occasional humor yet produces engrossing action scenes. Also, on the scale of success, the movies had a fair run at the box office and among critics. However, the update on the third installment is still pretty vague, until now.
Taron Egerton on Kingsman 3
Matthew Vaughn’s sumptuous Kingsman franchise does have room for at least one more installment complementing Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ comic book trilogy on which the premise of the narratives is based. Taron Egerton is also keen on revising the titular character Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, maybe one more time. Speaking with Collider, the 33-year-old star revealed having his own “idea for Kingsman” and he was interested “to pitch to Matthew.” Further, “I think that will be happening soon, but he has the wheels in motion on a big idea of his own. So who knows, you know? Who knows where it will land?” Egerton said.
“[Vaughn] has every intention of making it, and I have every intention of playing Eggsy one more time. That was always what I thought I was committed to doing. It’s the role that made my name, so I suppose, in a way, I just want it to be absolutely right if we do it again, and I want the story to do justice to the part that really changed my life. I want it to be a fitting ending. And I would, obviously, really hope that Colin [Firth] would come back for at least a part of it, and who knows? We’ll have to see, but we are planning to talk about it, actually, the next time we see one another, so who knows? Watch this space. But, you know, he’s certainly not backing off the idea,” he added.
There is a huge possibility of the expansion of the Kingsman universe but currently, Egerton is exploring new characters. His most recent Tetris is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
Taron Egerton on Wolverine Rumor
A wildly circulated rumor of Egerton playing a newer version of Wolverine sparked intense debate and discussion a couple of months back. “I made the mistake of saying that I had had a general meeting with at Marvel around four years ago, which is true,” Egerton addressed the online speculation in an episode of SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning. “But it got kind of spun and twisted into this thing,” he added.
“Look, I’ve always said … I don’t know if I’m the right guy to play that part. I was with Hugh [Jackman] yesterday, briefly, who obviously played the role originally — it was such different vibes. I don’t know if I would be the right person to follow him. But I’ve always said I would be open to it, but at the moment, there’s no truth, other than the fancasting thing, which goes kind of crazy every time I mention it. But, you know, who knows. Who knows.”
The Kingsman star has been confronted with the Wolverine rumor more than once occasion. Earlier in February, the actor clarified about his rumored MCU role, “There’s no truth in it. Very flattering, though,” Egerton said (via CBR). However, he met with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige but the reason is still unknown.
