Soon when it was announced that LaBeouf would not be a part of Indiana Jones 5, it raised quite a buzz in the fandom. Why is Shia LaBeouf absent from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny?

Shia LaBeouf‘s Mutt Williams was a major reason behind the unpopularity of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. His role as the secret son to the titular character added more criticism to the project which was already suffering from plot and CGI issues. Steven Spielberg’s addition of a science-fiction touch couldn’t impress the audience well which led to the movie being infamous among the fans even after being the franchise’s highest-grosser.

While Mutt Williams’ reason for absence is pretty evident to the fans, James Mangold added something more to the story. According to the Logan director, he wanted to showcase Indiana Jones’ chemistry with a female sidekick.

“When I came on, I wanted to capture that wonderful energy between Indy and an intrepid female character. So that was my first goal. And there’s only so many people you can kind of edge into a picture.”

Earlier also, we spotted our Indy with female sidekicks like Willie Scott and the fan-favorite Marion Ravenwood. In the upcoming movie, Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be seen as the Harrison Ford character’s Goddaughter Helena and also his potential sidekick in his forthcoming adventure. It is reported that the movie will also address the absence of LaBeouf to keep the fans out of any confusion. From the trailer, it also looks like the character will be interesting and certainly more than a simple sidekick. Undoubtedly, it will also be a refreshing change after Spielberg’s attempt to plant Mutt as a key character for the future failed horribly.

Indiana Jones 5’s early reviews divide the audiences

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny had many challenges ahead of it as it’s the first movie in the franchise without most of the original associates behind the movie. For the first time, both Steven Spielberg and George Lucas would not be involved with the franchise. On top of it, the movie also had the gigantic responsibility to provide a deserving farewell to one of the most iconic pop culture characters.
