“As we were doing the stunts, they kept getting bigger and bigger and I never told anyone that I was nervous about it because if you flinch, then they take you out of the stunt. We had gone so far with it that I was like, ‘Well… I might as well.’ The whole time it kept getting scarier and scarier and everything kept getting more and more injured.

“By the time we did the last stunt, I didn’t realize it was the last stunt till after it happened. It was like a 20ft jump on a wire across a pool and there was like a kick midair and I landed and they said cut. Then the guy came over to take the shackles and the wires off of my harness and he left one of the shackles on there. When I got back to the tent, I remember taking the shackles off and realizing that was the last time that I had to do a stunt on the show.”

Skylar’s dedication to the One Piece Live-Action has been recognized by a majority of fans. He had to train for almost eight hours to be able to recreate Sanji’s kicks.

“I just started sobbing like a little boy man. I was there [in the tent] for like 20 minutes… People would come in and ask me ‘what’s wrong?’ and I’m like ‘I’m alive, I’m okay.’ I called like my mom and dad and I was like ‘I did it’ and they were like ‘did what?’ and I was like ‘I survived.'”

To remember his achievement, Skylar took the shackle that was left with him on the set and used it to make a chain. He now wears it as a piece of jewelry wherever he goes.
