Gillian Anderson has always been a terrific actress, and she further proved her skills with her remarkable portrayal of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of Netflix’s superhit series, The Crown. However, she didn’t reprise her role for the sixth and final season of the show.
While there have been sources claiming the reason behind Anderson not reprising her role, in this battle of rumors and personal opinions, a previous interview of The X-Files star has resurfaced in which the actress revealed the worst part of playing a part in the hit ongoing six seasons show, The Crown.

The Most Uncomfortable Part For Gillian Anderson In The Crown
Among the sources claiming they know the reason behind Gillian Anderson not reprising her role as British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in season six of The Crown, a previous interview of the actress from 2020 with EW has recently resurfaced where the actress shared the most uncomfortable part of shooting for the series. She said:
“I have to say the stockings that they found for me to wear were some of the most uncomfortable I’ve ever put on in my life. I wore a bit of a body suit to pad me out a bit. That wasn’t particularly comfortable. It wasn’t about my comfort or my sense of style, but it certainly put together a look for Thatcher that I think everybody was pleased with.”
Not only this, but The X-Files actress even went to dig up everything she could find on her character so that she could perfectly play the part.
“I started with her childhood, reading about her parents, her sister, her childhood, going to school in Lincolnshire, and working in the shop and all of that. I read biographies, Charles Moore’s biography, and her autobiography. There’s so much stuff out there, there’s so much video, she’s really well covered. I watched pretty much everything I could get my hands on. There’s a doc that came out last year (Thatcher: A British Revolution), that’s a good one. And then obviously [I] worked with people on voice and movement and collaborated with hair and makeup and costume teams. Full on!”
However, while she received worldwide critical acclamation for her role in The Crown and was termed as a major asset to the series, it has been revealed that Gillian Anderson will not be reprising her role in the sixth and final season of the series.
Gillian Anderson Didn’t Return For The Crown Season 6
Earlier this year in April, reports surfaced that Gillian Anderson would not be reprising her role as Margaret Thatcher in the sixth and final season of The Crown. Among these was one by The Sun, which shared about the same as per an unnamed source, which said:
“It had been hoped she would be able to make an appearance in scenes around the golden wedding but sadly that has not been the case due to scheduling issues. As ever with the series, clever scripting will mean viewers will be none the wiser. But it’s been another blow for producers in what’s already been a fairly dogged production.”
While Metro reposted this report including a quote from a Netflix spokesperson who claimed that Anderson was ‘never intended to return as Margaret Thatcher’, the actress herself refuted all these claims by posting on X:

But despite her denial of it all, fans haven’t been able to see Gillian Anderson’s Margaret Thatcher in the first part of the sixth season of The Crown so far, which was recently released on Netflix, with further reports that the writers had to rewrite this last season of the series because of her.
