He first catapulted to fame for depicting his breakthrough role as the beloved Marvel character Logan / Wolverine in the lucrative X-Men film series. There has been no turning point since then, and he has gone on to star in big-banner movies such as Real Steel.

Over the years, there have been rumors that Shawn Levy has been hoping to make a sequel, as he previously confirmed that the upcoming Disney+ spin-off Real Steel series was still active and in development. Last year, the director claimed that while the spin-off is in the works, he can’t confirm if Jackman will appear in the show or if the potential movie sequel will see the light of day.

He further opened up about what the fans have been waiting to hear for a long time: if he would delight the audiences with the much-anticipated sequel in the future. In an interview, when asked if Hugh Jackman would reprise his role in the upcoming show as Charlie Kenton, to this, the director replied by teasing the possibility of a movie sequel as well, saying,

“That is a big question mark. Mmm, God, you’ve got me on the spot! I don’t know that Hugh will be in the series, but it’s a possibility, as is the possibility of a sequel.”

Despite the commercial success of the film Real Steel and the new audience and high ratings it received following its release on Netflix during a pandemic, the film has yet to get its sequel.

In a previous interview, director Shawn Levy shared that a sequel to his 2012 film Real Steel has been in the talk lately because of the attention it garnered following its streaming on Netflix in 2020. Levy has previously confirmed that an upcoming spin-off series is in the works, but fans await to watch a big-screen sequel starring Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton. He shared:

“It has been in my mind and in conversation a lot lately. Maybe because of the fact that when Netflix started streaming it during the lockdown, it became one of their top trending and most-viewed titles. Which led to Hugh and I talking again about, ‘What is this love for Real Steel?’ Kind of this realization that, ‘Well wait, we love it that much too.’ We’ve always loved it that much too. It’s one of those ‘never say never’, even though it feels like the clock has run out on that window of opportunity. It feels like that fan love and that audience hasn’t gone away. So, who knows?”

The titular movie has a stellar cast featuring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, and Olga Fonda, among more. The project earned critical acclaim from the critics, grossing nearly $300 million at the global box office.
