Bad Boys is an action comedy movie, which focuses on two detectives (also best friends) going on about Miami fighting crime and figuring out their lives. It is a fun watch that is made even more comical thanks to the unique chemistry between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. However, there is one downside to the movie, which is the excessive use of curse words and swearing.

It was this factor that made Will Smith doubt his decision to star in the film. The Men In Black actor has been against the use of curse words and even shies away from putting them in his lyrics.

“We’re playing narcotics agents in Miami so that’s a really dark, grungy world and I wanted to commit to it. Even on the set I was struggling a little bit with the foul language but I decided if you’re gonna play this character you just gotta close your eyes and one hundred percent commit to it.”

While he did swear up a storm, Smith did not let his oldest son watch the movie until he was way older.

“It’s definitely rated ‘R’. The only way I could do justice to that is it had to be raw. I couldn’t ‘PG-13’ it; it’s rated ‘R’ meaning no one under 17 will be admitted without parents! Trey and I have already had that discussion and he’s gonna have to wait on this one.”

Will Smith might have failed as a father more than once, but he sure did not this time.

There is one scene in the movie Bad Boys, where Will Smith lashes out at a young teenage boy who comes to take his character’s niece out for a date. It is this scene that The Pursuit of Happyness actor found the hardest.

“That was really hard for me to not think about you know my mother’s gonna see it and what are people gonna say. I had to commit to the reality of the scene and here’s a 15-year-old boy coming to take my niece out on her first date and we can not allow this boy to walk away from this door thinking that he is gonna have s*x with this girl!”

Describing the scene as a complete adlibbed, Will Smith being the proficient actor he is, perfectly nailed it despite being upset about the scene.

You can stream Bad Boys on Netflix.
