“I don’t really partake. I don’t go out. I’m just at home mostly, or with my friends, unless I have a film to promote. I don’t like being photographed by people. I find that offensive.

I think it’s the Tommy Shelby thing. People expect this mysterious, swaggering, it’s just a character. I do feel people are a little bit underwhelmed. That’s fine, it means I’m doing my job. Peaky fans are amazing. But sometimes I feel a little sad that I can’t provide, like, that charisma and swagger. He couldn’t be further from me.”

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Cillian Murphy shared his views on how fans expect him to act in public. They expect him to take on a dark, gloomy look, always looking from the side of his eye. Murphy went on to explain that most of his fans, especially the Peaky Blinders fans expect him to take on the Thomas Shelby appearance. Even though he feels uneasy in front of his fans and is quite sad due to this fact, he is certainly satisfied with his acting as fans familiarized themselves with a Shelby more than a Murphy.

“We’ve just been doing a junket here in New York, so you get a lot of foreign journalists from Venezuela, Peru, and Japan and people talk about the show and how much they love it. And that is a completely unexpected occurrence for us.

Nobody knew this would happen because the show had no advertising; it grew completely just by word of mouth. So I think we’re all really proud of it and delighted that the fans enjoy it so much.”

The actor shared his views on this matter during an interview and can be clearly seen that he was extremely happy with how the show turned out. Especially as the show did not have any proper advertising it grew only because the fans loved the show to that extent.
