In a candid chat with Greta Lee for Interview Magazine, the 61-year-old actress opened up about her preferences while portraying a character now. Discussing if she likes doing hair changes, Jodie Foster highlighted that it is easier to enact roles when there is a distinctive aspect to them. Furthermore, the Panic Room actress shared that playing characters in easy-going outfits seems like her current zone. Foster said,

“My last two shows have been fun though, because I’ve played characters in really comfortable outfits. I’ve lost interest in the days of corsets and high heels. The last time I did a corset, it was in Malaysia and it was a hundred degrees every day. I had to wear leather shoes, a wig, a corset, two petticoats, a skirt on top of that, gloves, a whole outfit. I was just like, “That’s it. I’m done.”

The complicated outfits of actresses often pose a difficulty to their portrayal, given the sheer discomfort. However, as times evolved several female characters have emerged who don a rather basic outfit, while the character’s integrity holds much to it. True Detective’s Liz Danvers is a great example.

At 14, Jodie Foster portrayed a child sex worker in Taxi Driver alongside Robert De Niro. There has been no turning back for the star ever since. She won two Academy Awards in 1989 and 1992, three BAFTA Awards, two in 1977 and one in 1992, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and three Golden Globe Awards per IMDb. While the list could go on, the actress has come to realize that having fun at work shall cut the ultimate deal for her. Foster explained,

“When I was younger, I thought I had to be miserable in order to give a good performance. Now I understand that I have to be having a good day. So once they say, “Cut,” I’m thinking about something else. And then I really like to have fun.”

Born and brought up in Los Angeles, Foster now prioritizes a life of relaxation and serenity. And why not, she has done her share of hard work. While a complete retirement from acting seems far-fetched still, Foster certainly is done with the serious aspect of it.
