We frequently come across shocking stories about Hollywood stars that make us wonder if they are real or just sensationalized. The case of Jonathan Majors, an MCU star recognized for his exceptional performances in popular series like Lovecraft Country, has gained a lot of attention lately. The actor was found guilty of Grace Jabbari’s alleged domestic abuse, according to reports in the media. But now a legal expert has come forward, disproving the conviction as a ‘finger injury’ hoax.
In short, Majors’ assault conviction resulted from a fight with Jabbari, his ex-partner. While the media paints a contrasting picture of the alleged domestic assault, a legal expert recently shed light on the truth behind the incident. Contrary to popular belief, the conviction was not related to domestic abuse; rather, it was the result of an incident in which Jabbari sustained a ‘finger injury’.
Real Reason Why Jonathan Majors Was Convicted?
Grace Jabbari and Jonathan Majors drove from their shared Manhattan apartment to Brooklyn on March 25, 2023. The former allegedly noticed a message on the actor’s phone while they were in the car; the text essentially read (via Vulture):
“Wish I was kissing you right now.”
Taking the phone from Majors, Jabbari tried to figure out who had sent it. Prosecutors claimed Majors started grabbing her right side and
“Prying Ms. Jabbari’s right middle finger off the phone, causing bruising, swelling, and substantial pain.”
As he grabbed Jabbari’s arm, and right hand and started to twist her forearm, the prosecution said, she was greatly injured. Prosecutors stated in court documents that
“The defendant then struck Ms. Jabbari’s right ear, causing a laceration to the back of her ear and substantial pain.”
Majors grabbed his phone and exited the taxi after allegedly hitting Jabbari. Prosecutors said that when Jabbari attempted to exit the vehicle, Majors
“Grabbed her, picked her up, and threw her back inside.”
A court document states that Jabbari suffered
“Substantial pain, including a fractured finger, bruising about her body, a laceration behind her right ear, and a bump on her head.”
Majors was taken into custody by the police later that night, and the following day, when he was arraigned, he was accused of misdemeanor assault and harassment. Jabbari, sadly, injured one of her fingers. Amid the confusion, a well-known legal expert came forward to refute the story of Majors’ conviction. The expert concluded that what the media depicted as a domestic assault was, in reality, a gross exaggeration after carefully reviewing the case and the evidence.
Meghann Cuniff, a legal expert, is quoted as saying (via YouTube):
“That’s just not true; it turns out the assault conviction is what happened in the car. It is for the ‘finger injury’. It was a reckless assault charge related to finger injury; the intent charge that he was acquitted of was also related to finger injury. But to be clear, the assault charge Jonathon Majors was convicted of is for the finger injury.”
The expert also underlined how crucial it is to weigh all available information and comprehend the nuances of a case before passing judgment.

Most Media Outlets Initially Turned The Case Into Domestic Abuse
Stories of sensationalism in the media are unsurprising in an age where headlines and clickbait are king. When the alleged domestic assault conviction of Jonathan Majors became public, the press was quick to hop on the bandwagon, painting a misleading picture of the case. Most news outlets initially reported that he was convicted of domestic abuse.
Meanwhile, the court document cites a surveillance tape showing that Grace Jabbari was seen on a sidewalk following the incident, which was made public by Insider. According to the filing, she is “visibly upset, crying, and seeking help from strangers to get an Uber cab home”. During a certain moment in the video, Majors passes by without pausing when Jabbari calls out to him.
This exaggerated depiction seriously harmed the actor’s reputation and clouded his promising Hollywood career. Majors was found guilty on December 18, 2023, of one count of third-degree reckless assault and one count of harassment related to that offense.
The date of his sentencing is February 6, 2024.
