How I Met Your Mother is loved by millions globally. The hit sitcom focused on several interesting yet humorous storylines and also presented five characters that people still love and cherish to this day. However, the season finale of the show was a major point of contention among the fans, who blamed the creators for rushing the ending.
But Cobie Smulders, who played Robin Scherbatsky on the hit sitcom, dropped a major bombshell in a past interview, which might bring in a sense of sympathy for the creators.
Cobie Smulders Revealed the Actual Reason Behind HIMYM’s Rushed Ending
How I Met Your Mother gained widespread acclaim with its intricate storytelling and playful jabs and banters. But the final season of the hit sitcom received major flak due to its quickly wrapped-up storylines and unclear narratives, which left many viewers feeling confused and unsatisfied. Adding on the same, Cobie Smulders revealed in a past interview with Jack O’Hara TV the real reason why the makers had to rush the ending.
She recalled that during the final episodes of the ninth season, there was a heightened sense of secrecy surrounding the plot and storyline. This was in complete contrast to the initial seasons, where spoilers were never a major concern. But the final season was plagued by the fear of script leagues that could have ruined the entire fan surprise. This was the same anxiety that the makers of the show were also going through, and “That’s kind of what sped up the timeline.”
Talking about the final episode, Cobie Smulders said that it was the production team’s direct effort to keep the crucial storyline under wraps. While the ninth season angered many viewers worldwide (Instead of focusing on Ted and Tracy, it focused on reuniting him with Robin), Cobie Smulders’s defense might bring in the necessary sympathy that the sitcom creators deserve.
Cobie Smulders Reflected Battling Cancer in Her 20’s
Cobie Smulders, with her portrayal of the sharp-witted and independent lead news anchor Robin Scherbatsky, captivated the viewers on screen. But off-screen, the actress was dealing with a deeply personal and challenging battle. At the peak of her career in the television industry, Smulders was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the young age of 25.
Further, without a clear roadmap for navigating such a daunting medical emergency, she found herself in the midst of uncertainty and intense medical treatments. She added in a past interview with People:
It was a mess. I think it was messy mostly because I had a great fear of not being able to have kids. I’ve always been very maternal, I’ve always loved children and I’ve always wanted one of my own, and so having that not being option, especially at such a young age — kids were very much not on my mind at 25, but I still wanted them one day. It was really hard and it was a really depressing thing to go through.
She also added that in 2007, when she was diagnosed with cancer, there weren’t many resources available to get help out there. This forced her to do crazy Google searches to understand the disease better. During the same time, she was determined to get her health back on track, and she took a proactive approach for the same. From cutting out cheese from her diet to trying out acupuncture and crystal healing, the actress tried everything.
However, during the entire ordeal, her main concern was that she wouldn’t be able to have children in the future. Fortunately, her doctor managed to preserve one third of her ovaries, which allowed her to have two children. The actress has been in remission for more than a decade now, and her story is a huge testament to her strength and resilience.
