Cillian Murphy has done commendable work in portraying the titular role in Oppenheimer. He has gone to great lengths to make himself similar to the real-life character, which included getting on strict dietary restrictions. Given that his co-stars from the movie have often addressed his intense preparation for the role, Matt Damon remarked that he’s the worst companion for dinner.
However, what made his statement more interesting was when Oppenheimer stars reacted to the same on Jimmy Kimmel’s show.
Oppenheimer Stars Reacted to Matt Damon’s Comment Against Cillian Murphy
The Oppenheimer actor, Cillian Murphy recently appeared on a 60 Minutes interview to talk about his hit movie. During the interview, host Scott Pelley told him about Matt Damon’s remarks about him being the worst dinner companion.
He shared,
“Matt Damon told me that ‘Cillian is the worst dinner companion imaginable.'”

In the same clip, the actor is seen bursting into laughter only to get back to his default expressions, as he was quite stunned. While the host later on explained the entire conversation, that particular clip ended up becoming an interesting discussion during his appearance at Jimmy Kimmel Live with co-stars, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. The popular host recounted him about the previous interview with the clip playing on-screen. As soon as his expression returned to normal, his co-stars couldn’t help but cackle on watching his clip.
Kimmel shared,
“I don’t blame you…I really don’t. What kind of a rude, insensitive why” as A Quiet Place star interrupted stating, “That’s going to be a new meme” adding, “He doesn’t mask it…that’s messed up.”
Not just them, even Murphy ended up in giggles but the whole conversation was a hilarious exchange after all, Damon’s an old frenemy of Kimmel’s. It is well known that the lead star opted for a strict diet which was the very reason why his dinner plans became a hot topic among his co-stars.
Cillian Murphy Avoided Dining With Oppenheimer Co-stars
During last year’s interview with Fandango, Murphy’s co-stars revealed that the Dunkirk actor refused to dine with them during the entire filming. The Bourne Identity star revealed that he never joined them for dinner despite getting invitations every night.
However, his co-stars knew that Murphy was serious about his work, and opted for a strict diet to give justice to his role. In an interview with PEOPLE, Blunt revealed,
“The sheer volume of what he had to take on and shoulder is so monumental. Of course he didn’t want to come and have dinner with us.” Meanwhile, Damon added, “He couldn’t. His brain was just too full.”
In the same 60 Minutes interview, Murphy explained his reasoning stating,
“Yeah, I mean, I’ve always been like that, I think. But it’s because, to me, you have the time on set, which is short enough time — you have 10 hours, maybe. And then the other part, if you’ve got a significant part, you’re having to keep your lines fresh.”
He continued,
“And then the other big thing for me is sleeping. I love sleeping and I need sleep.”
While it was his method of staying true to his character, he asserted that he had accompanied Damon to lots of dinners since the filming wrapped. Meanwhile, his efforts gave fruitful results as the movie surged past $960 million worldwide.
