In a discussion (via The Hollywood Reporter) Jennifer Carpenter revealed that she loved to curse in the show. Talking about how she had an input while working in the series, Carpenter revealed that the writers took her into consideration when she said that an f-word did not belong here or there.

“I have to say, the writers came up with some doozies. There were a handful of times that I would text some [profanity suggestions for Deb]. Some were accepted, some were rejected. The only time that I feel like I had any input was when I would say, ‘An f-bomb doesn’t feel right here. An f-bomb feels appropriate here.’ I got to move them around a little bit.”

“I have many [favorites]. One that’s not even a bad one, but ‘Christ on a crutch’ is really unique and it’s really effective.”

As her interview continued, Jennifer Carpenter revealed that there was a very specific reason why she had to walk away. Stating that she was satisfied with her character’s end in Dexter, Carpenter had no qualms about the ending.

“Everything led up to this finale. We built a beautiful, confusing, conflicting structure, and I was happy with the finished product and happy to walk away. The only reason I’m okay walking away is because the finale felt appropriate and right,”
