Working with director Martin Scorsese is certainly a big opportunity for every Hollywood star. The director has created some cinematic masterpieces like Taxi Driver (1976), After Hours (1985), Goodfellas (1990), and The Irishman (2019).
Scorsese’s latest movie Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), features some of the best Hollywood actors including, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone. This was the first time Gladstone worked with Scorsese, and it’s safe to say that it was an exciting experience for her. Scorcese was firm about getting Gladstone in his movie because he believed she had “truthfulness in her eyes” that was perfect for the role of Mollie Burkhart.
Lily Gladstone talked about working with Martin Scorsese
Recently, Lily Gladstone appeared for an interview with Interview Magazine and talked about the experience of working with director Martin Scorsese in his 2023 movie, Killers of the Flower Moon. During the interview, Gladstone was asked if Scorsese ever gets stressed on the sets, and she replied,
“Oh, sure. We all do. He’s got such a buoyant sense of humor, though. When Marty’s stressed, it’s like, ‘Okay. I got you.’ That’s the best that you can do.”
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) is based on the 2017 book of the same name by David Grann. The film puts a spotlight on a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation during the 1920s.
Martin Scorsese was sure that Lily Gladstone was perfect for the role of Mollie Burkhart
Lily Gladstone was registering for a data analytics course and entering her credit card information when a notification alerted her to a request for a Zoom meeting with Martin Scorsese. Due to COVID-19, Gladstone was planning to switch careers, but Scorsese’s call made her change her mind. Gladstone’s co-star Leonardo DiCaprio recalled (via IMDb),
“There was no reading. Marty just instinctively knew Lily was the one. There was a truthfulness in [her] eyes that he saw even over a computer screen. I’ve never known [Scorsese] meet somebody and then immediately afterwards have this gravitational pull and instinct to say, ‘Let’s not wait another minute.'”
The production of the film began in April 2021 and ended in October 2021. The film premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2023, earning praise from those who watched the film. It is all set to be released in theaters in the United States on October 20, 2023.
