Although the 2022 version of the Robert Pattinson starrer The Batman wasn’t received by the audiences too nicely, the DC studios are already talking about its sequel, The Batman – Part II, whose production is set to begin in November this year.

Appearing in an interview to talk about the same, the Twilight star shared how he was willing to include the Death in the Family storyline in his second Batman movie, but only on one condition.

“Yeah, but he has to be 13. That’s the only way I’ll accept it!” Robert Pattinson joked. “No, I love Death in the Family and stuff. I think it would be so cool. Also, people are so scared of it, that it’s kind of exciting. I think it would be a really fun addition.”

The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves, who will once again reclaim his seat for directing the sequel, also added his own opinion to Pattinson’s idea.

“I also like Death in the Family and I think the idea of being able to approach some of the stories and think, ‘How can we do this in a way that feels fresh and grounded?'” Matt Reeves added. “Look at the scary thing and see if there’s a way to do it. The question is, would we be too scared? I think we should try.”

Considering how the pair talked about the possible inclusion of this gory storyline in the upcoming Batman movie, it seems that it won’t be long before fans might be in for a terrorizing surprise.

What Is A Death in the Family About?

For those who don’t know what A Death in the Family is – Back in 1988, a new Batman story arc in the DC comics was released. This followed a gory storyline, enough to terrorize fans.

The back story behind this is that of the second Robin character in the comics: a teenage one named Jason Todd. Although he started in 1983, he was deemed unpopular by the late 1980s by fans. Thus, editor Dennis O’Neil created a poll for the DC audience to take their opinion as to what fate this other Robin character must face.

Out of the 10,000 votes that were cast, by a very slim margin, Todd got his death flag. This ended up with the Death in the Family storyline in the Batman comics showing this young character getting excruciatingly beaten to death with a crowbar by The Joker.

Yet, regardless of the polls being most probably bombed by trolls only to get rid of Jason Todd, this storyline remains a controversial milestone both in the Batman comics as well as the real world, which was criticized to the point of the character getting resurrected and re-built into another character, Red Hood, which is also one of DC fans’ biggest favorites of all time.

The Batman – Part II is set to reach audiences worldwide by October 3rd, 2025.
