Xbox has achieved massive success with some of its games that are considered comparable to other similar titles. Games such as Halo and Gears have taken Xbox’s popularity to new heights and the sequels of the games have brought more and more number of players. Xbox did not do well with its games in 2022 and Xbox Head Phil Spencer in an interview stated that they are not just looking to have more players on Xbox but want to evolve and focus on player choice.

Four Games Phil Spencer Considers Legendary for Xbox

Xbox
Halo Infinite

Two of the most popular games on Xbox, Halo Infinite and Gears were left out of the Xbox Showcase that was held earlier in June and left the community surprised. Even with the upcoming release of Halo Infinite Season 4, the shooter title was not at all acknowledged during the event that was followed by Starfield Direct. Phil Spencer spoke about this in an interview with The Guardian and said it is a symbol of how Xbox looks to evolve from where it was before. He said,

“I wouldn’t say Halo is of lesser importance, but we have over 20 studios now. I’ll go back to the years where I had basically four games; Fable, Forza, Halo, Gears, the four-horseman of the apocalypse. We have a lot more games now.”

He mentioned the four games, Fable, Forza, Halo, and Gears that have been the stepping stones in the journey of Xbox. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise if gamers get fewer games in the Halo or Gears series as Xbox does not need to rely on these games anymore. Spencer also mentioned more games on Xbox that were possible with the acquisition of big game studios like ZeniMax Media, Playground Games, Obsidian Entertainment, and more.

Gears 5

Spencer acknowledged the changes going on at the Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries with the resignation and layoffs including the exit of Halo veterans Joseph Staten and Bonnie Ross and also said that a few “cool things” are in the works. He said,

“We’ve been pretty public about the leadership change at 343. You can kind of see that in some of the social things [the team have] been doing around seasons, but I don’t wanna force them to talk about their longer-term vision until they’re ready. I think you’ll see some pretty cool things coming.”

Although Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything, a report by Venture Beat states that something unannounced and large-scale for Halo is under development at Texas-based developer Certain Affinity. It remains to be seen as to if or when gamers get a new Halo or Gears game and till then Xbox indeed has some amazing titles that players can enjoy, for example, the recent release, Starfield.

What’s Next for Fabel and Forza?

Xbox
Fabel 4 is under development

Fabel and Forza both were announced at Xbox Showcase as a trailer was released for Fable 4 by developers Playground Games after a long wait. The game was announced back in July 2020 but nothing else was revealed. As for Forza, the long-awaited new game in the racing series, Forza Motorsport will be released on October 10, 2023, for Series X|S and PC.

The Fable 4 trailer featured Richard Ayoade taking on the role of a villain as well as the star playing the role of the narrator before it was revealed that he is the antagonist. There has been no announcement on the release date of Fable 4 as the game is evidently under development but the best guess for the game launch would be somewhere around late 2024, though early 2025 is not out of the equation.
