The Acolyte’s opening infographic reads:  “A hundred years before the rise of the Empire, it is a time of peace. The Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic have prospered for centuries without war. But in the dark corners of the galaxy, a powerful few learn to use the Force in secret. One of them, a long assassin, risks discovery to seek revenge.”

The opening scenes of the pilot of The Acolyte are exciting. They feature an action-packed hand-to-hand combat scene between a mysterious young woman with cat-like eyes and a Jedi who looks just like Trinity from The Matrix. Her name is Indara (Carrie-Ann Moss), and she is about to die saving another.

Disney+’s The Acolyte (2024) Season 1 Episode 1 Recap: Who Killed Indara?

We aren’t sure who the assassin is, but Indara seems to know! While fighting, she sees a mysterious symbol on the assassin’s forehead. Indara says, “You?!” indicating that she recognizes the mystery woman. Indara draws her lightsaber, green, of course, to defend herself. The young woman plays on Indara’s emotions in two ways.

First, she states that Jedi only draw their lightsabers when they are about to kill. So, Indara holsters her weapon. While doing so, the assassin holds a blade behind her back while holding one in front of her. The assassin throws the sharp weapon at an innocent bystander, forcing Indara to use the Force to save them.

However, in the pilot episode of The Acolyte, Indara never sees the other blade coming, The tip pierces her chest and heart (and yes, as Bon Jovi said, it’s too late). Indara falls over, and we assume she dies. The assassin walks away, using the Force to pick up a weapon on the floor.

Who is Osha in The Acolyte?

We aren’t sure who Osha is, but she sure looks just like the mysterious assassin who murdered Indara! She is working on a cargo transport ship when a Jedi arrives to question her. He is an old friend, Yord Fandar (Russian Doll’s Charlie Barnett). What we can gather is that they went to Jedi training school together.

We find out that Osha has a tragic past. Her entire family was killed when she was a young girl, and this is why she ended up at the Jedi Academy. At one point, she was Indara’s Padawan. Yord points out that Indara was the one to kick Osha out of the academy, something Osha denies.

However, it does not matter. Yord has Osha arrested and taken on a prison transport. There, the ship runs into an asteroid field, and everyone abandons it except for Osha. The ship crashes on a wintery planet called Carlac.

Who is Sol in The Acolyte?

Sol (Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae) is a Jedi instructor at the Jedi Academy in Coruscant. He teaches a group of Jedi younglings and instructs Osha when she arrives after her family dies. Sol is also a Jedi Master, and his Padawan is Jedi Jecki Jon (Dafne Keen). Sol is approached by his boss, Mirialan Jedi Master Vern.

Vern informs Sol that Indara has been killed by his former student, Osha. This takes Sol aback, and Vern senses that Osha means more to him than she initially thought (and that Sol let on). Sol staunchly defends Osha, saying she would never kill Indara, though Vern says the evidence against her is substantial.

Vern later informs Sol that Osha’s ship crashed on Carlac. He requests that a team be sent to investigate and recapture Osha if she is still alive. He believes this is his failure and that the death of Indara is his fault. Sol takes Jecki, Jon, and Yord to search for Mae and investigate her crime spree.

Disney+’s The Acolyte Season 1 Episode 1 Ending Explained: Who is Mae in The Acolyte?

Mae (Amandla Stenberg) is Osha’s twin! Yes, Osha had a twin, and Sol informs Yord and Jecki Jon that she died years ago. However, when Osha comes to the crashed ship, she sees someone walk out into the cold and chase them. When they turn around, it’s a carbon copy of Osha, so it must be Mae, which she immediately confirms.

Mae also confirms something for Osha—she was the one who murdered Indara. The setting changes from a winter storm to a forest on fire several times during their conversation. Mae tells Osha she is going to kill them all. What does she mean? We don’t know. Sol and his team arrive on Carlac, chasing Osha to a cliff.

This Star Wars sage has Osha almost pull a Richard Kimble and fall after proclaiming her innocence. She falls backward to her death. However, Sol saves her with the Force in the air. He pulls her back up and tells Osha he believes in her innocence.

Who is talking to Mae at the End of the Pilot?

The episode of The Acolyte ends with an ominous figure, but we don’t know who they are. They tell Mae that the Jedi live in a dream and cannot be killed with metal or a laser. However, the Acolyte will kill without a weapon and end the dream.
