The fifth episode of the Disney+ series, The Acolyte, picks up where last week’s episode, titled “Day,” was left off. In an episode featuring the most awe-inspiring Jedi lightsaber battles this year, we finally discover who Mae’s mysterious master is and what they are.

It’s a brutal episode of The Acolyte. You could even call it devastating, depending on which characters you have grown fond of over the first four weeks. In short, heroes will fall, villains will rise, and nothing will be the same after a Parent Trap-like switch. Oops, I’ve said too much.

Disney+’s The Alocyte (2024) Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: What are Mae’s Master’s Abilities?

After Osha (Amandla Stenberg) wakes up, she subsequently trips over the dead Jedi’s body. Osha then sees Mae’s master fighting four Jedi warriors. They dispose of one Jedi immediately. Then, use the force to drag one into the red lightsabre after another is impaled.

We then see them somehow cut the power of the Jedi’s lightsabre, a power I haven’t seen before. We then see Yord Fandar taking a horrifying injury to his leg. He is only saved when Osha shoots her stun-blaster at them. We then see the villain has his own shield that protects him. This allows Osha and Yord to escape.

Why Does Mae’s Mast Wear a Mask?

It turns out that Mae’s master doesn’t necessarily wear a mask to protect his identity; it’s so Sol doesn’t hear his thoughts. While running from Mae’s enslaver, Osha and Yord are almost killed when the masked villain throws his red lightsaber like a boomerang. It cuts through three trees and returns to its targets.

However, that’s when Sol (Lee Jung-jae) jumps into the fray, saving them and blocking the weapon as it goes back to their enemy. They proceed to have an epic lightsaber battle: Sol, with his blue lightsaber of truth (or is it?), against the classic villainous red weapon. After a few back-and-forth exchanges, Sol tells Yord to take Osha to the ship. They run and obey.

How does Jecki Lon Die?

Yes, Jecki Lon dies (or does a Jedi ever really die?). She is killed when fighting Mae’s master, who stabs her three times in the chest. However, before this, she was battling Mae in a back-forth fight that resembled a wrestling match, in the way one was in control, then for others to turn the tables. In fact, at one point, Jecki Lon (Dafne Keen) is reading Mae her rights, only to have Mae pull her knife.

As they battle back and forth, Mae’s master comes out of nowhere to save Mae from certain capture. (In a scene before, the villain’s kick sends Sol flying, and when our hero lifts his head, the bad guy is gone.) Luckily, Lon had Kelnacca’s (Joonas Suotamo) weapon in her back pocket. As soon as Maes’s master destroys her green, she pulls the Wookie, saving herself.

Who is Mae’s Master?

Mae’s master’s identity is revealed after Jecki Lon knocks off his helmet and when she collapses from her fatal wound. Sol looks and sees Qimir (Top Gun: Maverick’s Manny Jacinto) standing before him. Yes, the potion man Mae was bullying, and Sol questioned, is the mysterious master and villain.

Qimir also reveals that he is known as a Sith, which we know is an “ancient order of force-wielders who use the dark side of the force to gain power.” They utilize force lightning (I cannot wait to see that), Sith magic, and a thought shield, hence the helmet. The reveal is eye-opening, especially for Yord and Osha, who come back to help Sol only to find Jecki Lon murdered.

Disney+’s The Acolyte Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained: What is The Acolyte?

According to Qimi, he calls Mae (Amandla Stenberg) his “acolyte” and infers he always wanted an apprentice to train. Mae was the choice, and in the last episode, he betrayed her. Now that everyone has seen his face, he must kill everyone. Of course, Yord charges at Sol, killing him. Sol shows a vengeful side and is about to kill Qimir, but Osha stops him.

She reminds him that killing someone without a weapon is not the Jedi way. That’s because Osha has a plan. She has been leading those massive bug critters to Qimir. When his back is turned, she turns on Pip’s light and attaches the pocket-sized droid to him. Those critters are attracted to light, so they swarm Qimir, who runs, fighting them off-screen.

How Does Mae Escape?

The Acolyte has Mae escaping Qimir by pretending to be her sister, Osha! Yes, the parent trap we talked about above! Mae knocks out Sol with Osha’s stun blaster. Osha restrains Mae and tells her that she is bringing her in, even after Mae insists her sister has been brainwashed by the Jedi, inferring that Mae didn’t start the fire (eat your heart out, Billy Joel).

Star Wars: The Acolyte ends with Mae knocking out Osha and passing out on the ground. She then switches her clothes and cuts her hair like her sister with her lightsaber. Mae, as Osha, finds Sol, and they head home. Meanwhile, Qimir finds Osha (Mae) on the ground with a nasty wound and closes it with his Sith magic. Qimir may know this is Osha, but he doesn’t care.

He just wanted an apprentice, after all.
