But before that, there was another actor who refused to do the same. He was none other than the Friends beloved star Matthew Perry. His off-screen personality totally matched his character, and he proved it in real life, too. On the show, Perry prevented a cheating scandal by rejecting the storyline idea.

A Friends guest star whose character was meant to have an affair with Matthew Perry’s Chandler Bing said Perry removed the scene the day before it was filmed. Liza Cash told TMZ:

“I was told that [Perry] went to the writers and said the audience will never forgive him for cheating on Monica, which ― he was probably right. That would have changed possibly the course of the show, and of his character.”

Cash said that they had thoroughly rehearsed the scene for the 1999 episode set in Las Vegas. In the original script, following an argument between Chandler and Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Chandler was supposed to order room service. During this scene, he would connect so well with the server (Cash) that they would have had a romantic encounter.

The guest actress expressed gratitude for being cast in a less significant role as a flight attendant. However, she believed that her original role might have affected her career in a good way. “It could have been kind of a game changer,” she said.

“I was new to the industry, and it could have been really intimidating for me ― like, Season 5 of ‘Friends,’ and a scene with Matthew Perry! But I just felt so comfortable, and he was really likable and welcoming and just made me feel at ease … It was just really fun doing the scene with him.”

Perry died on October 28 due to an apparent drowning. As per the law enforcement, no drugs were found at the scene, and there was not even a sign of criminal activity.
