Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi continues to live in the hearts of fans even though the anime finished premiering in September 2014. The story about Gon’s exploits as a Hunter in the background of the search for his father led to the creation of multiple memorable arcs and characters such as Killua, Kurapika, Chimera Ant king Meruem the clown-painted Hisoka.

Despite its supposed ‘early ending,’ HxH continues to be an inspiration for mangakas such as Masashi Kishimoto. He created one of the ‘Big 3’ of the shonen genre, Naruto, by incorporating ideas from the works of Yoshihiro Togashi sensei. Both love each other’s works and continue to get creative ideas for certain scenes, characters, or personalities.

Hunter x Hunter Creator Yoshihiro Togashi Praised Masashi Kishimoto For A Certain Scene

Mangakas try to bring out certain themes in their works which could be either satirical or symbolical. Both Masashi Kishimoto and Yoshihiro Togashi are masters of this art. During the 10th year anniversary of Naruto in 2009, the two legends opined on their works. Togashi then showered praise on Kishimoto and his exact words were recorded by Hunterpedia.

“When I read the scene where Kakashi fights Team 7 while holding his book, I couldn’t help but compliment Kishimoto-sensei, using that little detail to show the difference of experience between the characters made me realize that the author was really creative.”

The scene that Yoshihiro Togashi was alluding to was a Bell Test taken by Kakashi Hatake to assess the team spirit of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno in the third training ground. Occurring fairly early in the series, Kakashi challenges them to take the bells in his hand by noon. The three young ninjas only had 1 hour 30 minutes to complete the challenge.

Kakashi told his disciples to come at him with killer intent, permitting the use of Shuriken. Even though Naruto tried to cheap-shot his trainer before the timer began, none of them were able to take the bell from his hand. Kakashi also started reading a book midway through his battle with Naruto, a scene that captured the difference in powers between the trainers and the trainee but also how the lack of coordination affected the training’s success.

It is also the same scene where Kakashi uses the Leaf Village Secret! Ultimate Taijutsu technique on Uzumaki’s bum, sending him flying in the air.

Not only was the whole fight sequence hilarious to watch for Yoshihiro Togashi and fans alike, but it also portrayed the need for teamwork – that Uzumaki, Haruno, and Uchiha use to defeat multiple villains in the future. By the end of the training, Naruto is left hanging on a tree, Sasuke is trapped underground, and Sakura almost loses her mind when she believes Sasuke’s buried head to be a severed head.

Even though Kakashi Hatake initially failed to organize the three as a team, he achieved his purpose with a trick. Kakashi threatened to not expel them from the Academy if only they accepted a condition: that they wouldn’t feed Naruto, who was tied down to a tree, for a whole month. Sasuke and Sakura eat their lunches in front of him until Kakashi disappears from the scene.

When both ninjas offer Naruto their lunch, Kakashi appears out of nowhere to stop them. He berates them for not following instructions but commends their team spirit – sacrificing their portion of food after a long and tiresome day of battle for the sake of the other.
