The Bear series and its stars are receiving well-deserved recognition, having won big at the two major award events this year, the Golden Globes and the Primetime Emmys. The series won three Golden Globes and six Emmys, and the stars walked the red carpets of these events with pride. During an interview on the Emmys’ red carpet, Variety spoke with Matty Matheson, the celebrity chef-turned-actor.

Matheson, who proved his acting prowess in The Bear, opened up about his dream acting roles. Matheson is no stranger to the small screen, having hosted multiple television shows like It’s Suppertime! and Dead Set on Life. The Keep It Canada host shared that his dream was to act in diverse movie genres, specifically mentioning a desire to be part of Marvel and Indiana Jones movies.

When asked about his preferred Marvel character to play on-screen, Matheson took a moment to contemplate before fixing on one of the central X-Men characters, Cyclops. Matheson shared with Variety:

“My dream is to act in a lot of movies, just act in everything. Maybe a couple Marvels and a couple Indiana Jones. Is the X-Men Marvel? Cyclops. Cyclops is cool.”

Furthermore, he was asked about his specific choice of Cyclops in Marvel films. Matheson couldn’t pinpoint one particular reason but shared that he felt playing a role with laser powers would be cool.

James Marsden played the character of Cyclops in the original X-Men films, followed by Tye Sheridan. Sheridan has recently expressed his interest in reprising the role if the circumstances allow. Speaking to Comicbook.com, Sheridan shared that X-Men films were “cool movies” with “cool characters” that explored “deeper themes and messages.” He stated his willingness to reprise the role “as long as [the films] were staying in that realm.”
