Chris Hemsworth has become a household name thanks to his Thor role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. While playing a hero is surely awesome, the actor is enjoying his transition to villain in the upcoming movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

It is drastically different from his MCU role, with the actor sharing his experience while working alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in the Fury Road prequel.

The prequel will revolve around the titular character (played by Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne) who attempts to return to her home after getting kidnapped by Biker Horde (wasteland gang).
Chris Hemsworth‘s Dementus is the warlord and leader of the Biker Horde, who commits a heinous act against her that leads Furiosa’s quest for vengeance.

In an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Podcast, the Extraction actor reflects on his time, portraying Doctor Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
He shared,
“I think the best experience of my career. And something I’m the most proud of, too. I put more work into it than anything I’ve ever done. And the collaboration I had with George [Miller] was just beautiful. And working with Anya was incredible.”
His warlord role is yet to be explored, as the movie trailer drops little information on his connection with other characters. Although fans would have to wait a while to completely witness what Hemsworth brought to the franchise, he has already given a sneak peek of his character.

Since the release of its trailer, Hemsworth has been actively promoting the project. He also gave an insight into how his character would be in the upcoming story. At CCXP last December, the actor dropped his character traits‘ as he shared via Variety,
“He’s a complicated individual. He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland, which is the world the ‘Mad Max’ saga takes place in. He’s a product of his environment.”
He continued,
“He has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed. He’s learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and it’s a very manipulative charisma.”
He also expressed his thoughts on how this role would inevitably be compared to his renowned Thor portrayal. In an interview with EW, he shared, “It’s not intentional to be a comparison of Thor but I found a wonderful departure to it.” Although the characters are similar when it comes to humor, Dementus purely has a sick sense of humor and is brutal to be precise.
Whereas, his God of Thunder role is more on the light side, which took a more humorous turn in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. He had a wonderful time “to play the villain, transform, and inhabit a completely different physicality was a lot of fun. I loved it. And it was the real attraction.”
Furthermore, he surely had fun “to dirty it up and to be messy and ugly and violent and chaotic, rather than being in the somewhat predictable box of the hero in a superhero space.”
It is surely exciting for him to try something new out of his usual character. Needless to say, Hemsworth’s take on his antagonist character is quite a proud moment that is only going to raise fans’ expectations about the upcoming movie.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
