Halo is a long-running and one of the most successful first-person franchises. While the franchise struggled with some mediocre games, Halo 2, released in 2004 is one of the most praised titles and with a fantastic multiplayer mode changed the entire experience.
Fast forward to 2014, Halo 2: Anniversary edition was released as a part of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which brought improved graphics and gameplay overall. However, what it didn’t change is the classic first-person experience. This is where the community came in as players can now play the popular first-person shooter from a third-person perspective.

The modding community jumps in once again to save the day. PC players can now play Halo 2: Anniversary Edition from a new perspective.
A free mod created by rorke115 allows players to switch the game to third-person mode, letting them see Master Chief in all his armor-clad glory during the campaign. It is never a bad idea to play the Halo campaign and when a fresh angle is in play, it is a great way to go through the game’s iconic levels and story.
The particular mod isn’t just about the camera. The modder behind it went a step forward to make adjustments to weapons such as beam rifles and sniper rifle to work better with the mod, especially when in Zoom.
Furthermore, the mod adds 3rd person for the sentinel gun, while it removes fire from the camera flag on the player bipeds.
The Mod Isn’t All Perfect

While the third-person mod is a new and fun way to go through the campaign it is not all perfect and comes with some limitations. The very first issue players will encounter is that the mod starts from the Cairo Station when you pick up a weapon, which further means that the opening tutorial section is still locked in first-person.
Furthermore, there are a few visual quirks fans won’t adore. The current version of the mod doesn’t allow for adjustments to the third-person camera’s field of view. This can result in a slightly zoomed-in perspective compared to other third-person games.
Another one, and perhaps the dealbreaker is that the zoom doesn’t work. According to the modder:
If you press the button for zoom you will down your weapon
Nevertheless, despite these limitations, the mod is a near-perfect addition for PC players who want to revisit Halo 2: Anniversary with a different field of view. The franchise is still going strong with the latest entry Halo Infinite released back in 2021.
