With Robert Downey Jr. set to return in his first major project since Avengers: Endgame, the hype around the upcoming Christopher Nolan-led Oppenheimer keeps on ascending. And part of the reason for this hype is the memes circulating over the internet, thanks to the film releasing on the same date as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, a completely tonally different movie.

But apart from the memes, it will be enticing to see how the Nolan-led project captures the story leading to one of the bloodiest moments in human history. Although Cillian Murphy remains the center of attention for the upcoming film, it will be interesting to see how Murphy’s dynamic with Downey’s Strauss unfolds, as playing the character has definitely left an impact on the Marvel star.

Robert Downey Jr believes the World should be a matriarchy

Reliving the biggest horrors of human history has left a lasting impact on Robert Downey Jr, as he is once again proven correct. Even before heading into Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the Iron Man star believed that Women should be in utmost power, as throughout history, men have been the prime reason behind some of the bloodiest events. And reliving one of the darkest periods in human history has further solidified his beliefs, as the Marvel star claims the world should be a matriarchy. He said,

“Context is so critical. The timing of the Manhattan project, the need for it, the deployment of it, necessary or not, you can read plenty of data that would support either. But regardless, the why can be debated, but the here we are now that’s the cold hard truth.” He continued, “Men start wars and the entire planet should be a matriarchy. But I’ve never changed position on that. Well, this was just a triple confirmation.”

Although the Tropic Thunder star was initially pretty picky and choosy about the roles he wanted to pursue after leaving the MCU behind, the inclusion of Murphy and Nolan in the project grabbed his attention.

Robert Downey Jr was initially hesitant to star in Oppenheimer for its theme

After playing the same character for almost a decade, it’s reasonable to see why Robert Downey Jr. has been quite selective when it comes to his future projects. Although the film’s conflicting theme initially scared the actor from taking the gig, the opportunity to work alongside Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy was too tempting to resist. But despite his initial hesitancy, Robert Downey Jr. didn’t regret his decision, as he had a fun time working in the film as Murphy for the most part did the heavy lifting. He explained,

“There’s themes in this film about being held up in this rarified air for something that you’re so conflicted about,” he said. “It was … nice to have the pressure off because I let this guy [Murphy] do the heavy lifting,”
