This week saw the launch of Fntastic’s newest MMO, The Day Before, to a terrible response by the fanbase, many of whom chose to refund the game just mere hours after receiving the early access version of the title. This means 46% of all those who took part in the early access game chose to refund it within Steam’s 2-hour grace period. This also comes with the announcement that the company has had to close its doors, citing that it “failed financially“.

After delays and intellectual property disputes, the game finally hit the Steam store, only to be hit with a torrent of negative reviews and refund requests as fans voiced their dismay for the title and its lackluster gameplay and mechanics. Unfortunately, the game will be labeled a failure by many fans who ripped it to shreds mere hours after its release.

Trouble in Paradise for The Day Before

The Day Before
The Day Before has had overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam.

The response to the game on Steam has been poor for the company on the first few days of the game’s release, with some shocking statistics released regarding the game’s performance, with 91,700 of the initial 201,000 units being refunded within the first day of the game’s being released, pointed out by GameDiscoverCo’s Founder Simon Carless.

Since which the game has had a reported 0 downloads in the days since its EA release with a 75–80% player drop in the first day, and the game performed so badly that it was dropped from Steam’s top sellers list by day too, making it Fntastic’s worst performing game since its 2001 title, Propnight.

The Steam reviews for the game may shed some light as to why the game has performed so poorly, with an overwhelmingly negative response, with many fans joking that the company started working on the game the day before it came out.

Others, however, offer an insight into why so many players may be angry about the game, with complaints about the inability to melee attack, vault over obstacles, or change settings such as the resolution. The reviews also show just how bad the refund claims were, with many stating the product has been refunded to their account.

A data analyst by the name of Alex Carless posted screenshots to their account showing a reportedly leaked telegram message from Fntastic’s CEO Eduard Gotovtsev showing the horrifying reality of the situation, with the CEO stating, “The game did not pay off.”

What does the faliure of The Day Before mean to Fntastic?

Fntastic will be shutting its doors after this failure.

The game has undoubtedly had the worst reception of any game in recent memory and, as such, has had a hugely negative impact on the company as a whole, with a statement from Fntastic saying it would be closing its doors after “failing financially,” referring to the refunds made by fans after the game’s release.

In the statement, the company said that it had invested all of its resources and manpower into the game and insisted that it had not taken any of the fans money prior to its release.

Unfortunately for the company, the efforts seem to have been in vain, as this latest flop of a game has been delayed and delayed only to be tanked by fans upon release, and unfortunately, The Day Before will be the last game made by the company, and having its run cut extremely short, it’s safe to say it won’t be looked back on fondly.
