It’s possible that many missed the news that right after the “Barbenheimer” fever, Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling joined forces to bring The Fall Guy to audiences. It’s been described as an exhilarating journey. However, despite receiving such rave reviews, the movie didn’t perform as strongly as expected at the box office on its opening day.
Although the movie started its journey with somewhat impressive numbers, people somehow expected more. Speculation is swirling that the timing of its release, coinciding with May the Fourth and the re-release of The Phantom Menace, may have impacted its numbers.
The Fall Guy Faces Tough Competition with The Phantom Menace in Theaters
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace made a grand return to theaters on May 3. And what better way to honor the occasion than by binge-watching the entire Skywalker Saga on May the Fourth, right? Despite taking some heat from critics back in the day, the movie still raked in the dough like nobody’s business.
Directed and written by the legendary George Lucas, it hit screens as a highly anticipated project on May 19, 1999. With fresh-faced Anakin Skywalker, wise-cracking Obi-Wan Kenobi, and a whole bunch of other iconic characters, it truly was a visual feast. It’s estimated that Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace will pull in around $11.5 million this weekend according to Box Office Report.
Now lot of folks are speculating that all the hoopla around Star Wars: The Phantom Menace anniversary screenings might be why the stunning Ryan Gosling‘s The Fall Guy is struggling at the box office.
But that’s not all, the competition is fierce with heavy hitters like Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes, IF, Garfield and Furiosa, and others still raking in the dough. It’s tough seeing such a fresh and unique concept take a nosedive. But hey, don’t count it out just yet, it’s still a promising flick and definitely worth a watch!
