Amid the high anticipation for the next James Bond, new reports suggest that the 33-year-old British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson is now set to take over Daniel Craig as the super spy 007. Craig portrayed the role since the 2006 film Casino Royale and concluded his journey with the 2021 film No Time To Die, leaving fans wondering about the next actor who would take on the role.
Many names, including that of the former Superman actor Henry Cavill, have been speculated to land the role for the future installments in the franchise. However, to the dismay of his and many other actors’ fans, the role has now reportedly gone to the Kick-Ass star.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson Reportedly Cast as the New James Bond
According to a new report from The Sun, Aaron-Taylor Johnson is expected to take on the role of the MI6 spy James Bond after Daniel Craig. The actor is known for starring in movies like Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Bullet Train among others.
The production company behind the James Bond movies, Eon Productions, is reportedly set to start filming this year and is waiting for his response. “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it,” a source said before adding, “The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.”
They also claimed that the British actor is likely to accept the offer, which will be followed by an official announcement. “As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement,” the source stated.
The Sun also states that the next James Bond movie faced delays due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. However, insiders have confirmed that the script is being written and the production for the next installment is expected to take place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
The Age Of Ultron star has been among some of the most popular contenders to take on the role of the MI6 spy 007 alongside actors like Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, and Cillian Murphy, among others.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Reaction to James Bond Rumors
Earlier during an interview, Aaron Taylor-Johnson was asked about the rumors surrounding him taking on the role of James Bond. Responding to the rumors, the British actor expressed his gratitude that his fans consider him for such an iconic role.
“I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role,” he said, as per The Sun, before adding, “I take it as a great compliment.” If the reported claim from The Sun turns out to be true, the Godzilla actor would be the next to take on the role after Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
Taylor-Johnson is also set to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming film The Fall Guy and is set to lead the upcoming superhero film Kraven the Hunter.
The Fall Guy is set to release on May 3, 2024.
