Daniel Craig’s nearly fifteen-year-long run as James Bond ended with 2021’s No Time to Die. Since then, the hunt for the next actor to play the iconic British super spy has been on. That search appears to be nearing its end as a new report from The Sun suggests that actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has received a formal offer to take over the role.

“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.”

A source made the above statement in the aforementioned report, heavily implying that an official announcement regarding the casting was coming soon. Taylor-Johnson, 33, rose to prominence with his starring role as Dave Lizewski in 2010’s Kick-Ass.

The British actor is best known for his performance as Quicksilver in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. He is also set to star in the titular role in Sony’s upcoming Kraven the Hunter, which is scheduled to release in August this year. In November 2022, Taylor-Johnson reportedly underwent a screen test for the Bond gig with producer Barbara Broccoli, which made him a front-runner in the race.

Henry Cavill Rumored to Make MCU Debut in Deadpool & Wolverine

Before the reports of the James Bond role being offered to Taylor-Johnson, actor Henry Cavill was also heavily linked with the role. According to the most recent bookies odds, Cavill had 7/2 odds of being cast as the next Bond actor, coming in second, slightly behind Taylor-Johnson, who had been the bookies’ favorite.

While it seems like Cavill might not suit up as the next Agent 007, he is rumored to be joining the MCU. In February 2024, insider MyTimeToShineHello reported that Cavill had been offered a role in an upcoming MCU film, which the actor had accepted.

As a result, it has been speculated that Cavill will be making his MCU debut in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine as a variant of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. However, whether these rumors prove to be true remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the yet untitled 26th Bond film, which could introduce Taylor-Johnson as Agent 007 is expected to start production later this year.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released on July 26, 2024.
