In The Game Awards 2023 trailer, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is formally announced. We see iconic Dragon Ball characters Goku and Vegeta battle it out before transforming into their Super Saiyan Blue forms. In actual gameplay and cutscenes, the graphics and visuals look straight out of the anime.

They’re able to get these visuals thanks to the Unreal Engine. Play a fresh new 3D Dragon Ball fighter as it continues the Budokai Tenkaichi series. There will be a single-player mode alongside multiplayer with online capabilities.

The Game Awards 2023 announcement showed the next Budokai Tenkaichi game. It will likely skip over Dragon Ball Z’s story and adapt the new Dragon Ball Super storylines. We already saw Goku and Vegeta turn into their Super Saiyan Blue forms, but we get a super fast montage of Dragon Ball Z characters such as Piccolo and Krillin.

Dragon Ball Super characters also make an appearance, like Bergamo and Jiren. Battling out in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will act similarly to previous Budokai Tenkaichi titles. Fight your opponents in a 3D environment as the stage falls apart from the powerful abilities, techniques, and transformations.

Before The Game Awards 2023 announcement trailer, fans were teased with Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4 earlier this year in March. That trailer began with clips of the old Budokai Tenkaichi games, which any Dragon Ball fan would’ve played at some point in their life. The tagline, “A New Budokai Tenkaichi Begins,” gave fans more than enough reason to call it Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4.

Now called Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, this is the next Budokai Tenkaichi title. It’s been over 15 years since Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was released on the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo Wii in 2007. It had over 95 characters, and some had multiple forms to pick from.

Don’t expect Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero to have this large cast of characters. What you can expect is a next-generation Dragon Ball 3D fighter experience. No 3D Dragon Ball fighter has come close to reconnecting fans with the series like Budokai Tenkaichi has.
