What The Jackbox Party Pack 10 Does Really Well
Each of the game modes in The Jackbox Party Pack 10 have great moments, however, the two that stood out in terms of humor, creativity, and replay value are Timejinx and FixyText.
Timejinx is a straightforward trivia game that sends gamers on a time travel mission to put things back in order. Unless you’re incredibly knowledgeable of when certain historic events took place, this game will present a welcome challenge.
Chances are, most people will miss a few questions by massive margins, however, the game is constantly giving you a chance to lower your score. As someone who enjoys trivia, I felt this game did a great job of mixing a classic trope with tried and true gameplay.
FixyText is the other game from The Jackbox Party Pack 10 that really stood out. This is the closest players will get to something like Quiplash or Fibbage, which are the gold standard when it comes to Jackbox.
This chaotic rapid fire text based game gives players the most freedom to be as random or weird as they could possibly want. It is very replayable, it requires you to be quick on your feet, and it often leads to a hilarious yet bizarre result.
And the cherry on top is that the game reads your deranged message back to you when the time is up.
The Other Games In The Jackbox Party Pack 10 Bring Unique Fun, But For Different Reasons
The next game to mention, which is quite clever, is Hypnotorious. The concept of trying to match your identity with another person and discover who the outlier is can be great fun.
The macabre art style with floating brains is also the perfect backdrop given how close this game is releasing to Halloween.
While I think this title will easily be one people often request, it does not reach the level of FixyText, due to a slight restraint on users. Each person has their own opportunity to type what they want in an effort to find their match, but there is less freedom to say just about anything.
Gamers who want to win will have to be more strategic in what they say, which won’t arise to the same quality of humor.
Tee K.O. 2 is another great game mode, which is very familiar to Jackbox fans. Supporters of the franchise have been begging for this revival and The Jackbox Party Pack 10 delivers.
The only thing stopping this game from fitting into the number one spot is originality. It is fantastic fun and introduces new elements making it even more enjoyable, but players have seen this mode before, when it arrived in the third game.
Lastly is Dodo Re Mi, the game that brings the music world to The Jackbox Party Pack 10. This game is exceptionally fresh and clearly shows the developers are not afraid to try something new.
Nevertheless, because this game seeks to expand the horizons, it will likely be the most divisive among fans.
Dodo Re Mi feels like a comical mobile version of Guitar Hero, where the instruments are a lot more wild and unexpected. It is this play style that will likely make the game either hit or miss with gamers.
Each song provides unique ways to play, that will keep gamers entertained. The gargling sound effect was easily a favorite of mine and I foresee it becoming a fan favorite as well.
Concluding Thoughts on The Jackbox Party Pack 10
When it comes down to picking one favorite out of these new game modes it would be nearly impossible. Each piece of the Party Pack puzzle is special in its own way and you can tell from the quality that the developers put care into this installment.
An aspect that impressed me the most about this title is that Jackbox Games has worked to bring the new Party Pack to as many users as possible. There are now several languages players can select and there’s even an option for trivia questions that are not US centric.
This coupled with the additional accessibility features just shows an awareness that should be more common among developers.
There are also two different games (Timejinx and Dodo Re Mi) which only require one player. This is perfect for gamers who want to enjoy Jackbox on their own, or need something to do while they wait for friends and family to join.
The Jackbox Party Pack 10 releases on October 19 to most platforms and I highly recommend it. The Jackbox Games team has created another successful entry that is innovative, but does not reinvent the system fans know and love.
This is a win for gamers, so prepare for wild rides, lots of laughs, and a game that may never get old.
