While Matt Smith has already played a Marvel character in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe’s Morbius, the alleged casting received mixed feedback from the fans. While some could totally see the actor as Mr. Fantastic, others absolutely opposed the idea. There might be some hope for those in the latter category as Matt Smith’s representatives have reportedly declined the casting.

According to well-known and trusted scooper DanielRPK, Matt Smith was “the last actor to get an offer” to play the patriarch of Marvel’s First Family. This was before the commencement of the SAG-AFTRA strike. While the scoop did not confirm the casting, fans already imagined Smith in the lead role, with some liking the looking of it and some not.

Well, Streamr Entertainment took the liberty of reaching out to Smith’s representatives about the casting rumors. They replied stating that the Morbius actor had not been cast as Reed Richards.

“We have independently confirmed with Matt Smith’s reps that, as of June 28th 2023, he was not cast in the upcoming ‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ film.”

Later, Streamr Entertainment gave an update to the fans about the matter after they reached out to the representatives again. This time, though, the answer was a little more ambiguous. The Twitter account stated on August 02,

“We again reached out today and instead of a confirmation or flat out denial as was previously made, we were told, ‘No comment,’ on whether Matt Smith was cast in the upcoming ‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ movie.”

Does this mean that there’s still hope for those who want to see Smith play the Invincible Man? Right now, all we can do is wait for an official confirmation. Meanwhile, Smith’s vast filmography which includes, Doctor Who, The Crown, and House of the Dragon, suggests that the actor could easily pull off the said role. What do you think?

After Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been actively lobbying for John Krasinski to play Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. While this seems to be a far-fetched possibility, a majority of the fan base is dead set on The Office actor to reprise the role, despite having been turned into pasta by Wanda Maximoff.

On the other hand, Adam Driver and Dev Patel have also been some fan favorites. However, when the report about Smith being offered the role made its way to the Internet, fans were a bit divided. While some wholeheartedly supported the idea, others couldn’t see the talented actor playing this role to perfection.

Here’s what Twitter has to say about the possible casting:
