Avatar: The Last Airbender has a great number of projects outside of the original animated series that fans either find themselves loving or utterly despising, including The Legend of Korra. Among these also include the two live-action adaptations.
While Korra’s story was one that the audiences approached with great caution, it was understandable considering how it is regarded as a project with lost potential.
So far, beginning from Aang’s story, Avatars have been coming and going accordingly. From fire to air and then water. So to see that the next Avatar would be an earthbender is not an aspect of surprise. The next project for the franchise would follow a similar route in bringing about an earthbender.
Unlike The Legend of Korra, which was based 70 years after the events that took place in Avatar: The Last Airbender, the upcoming sequel series would take place a century after Korra’s journey as the Avatar.
Avatar: The Legend of Korra’s Sequel Project
Avatar: The Last Airbender has been giving out one project after another since the original series’s release in an attempt to not only continue its story but also replicate the fame it brought.
Although the latest in this installment did not fetch as big of a crowd as was expected, it did not get thrashed like M. Night Shahalam’s movie adaptation did. As per Avatar News, a new project is in the works following the story of the next Avatar, an earthbender.
The story is set to take place a century after the events of The Legend of Korra, posing as a sequel to the same. This would mean that the story of the next Avatar would be 170 years after Aang’s journey began. The setting would be in a modern world.
A pattern of repetition gives the suggestion that fans may already know what the next Avatar would look like.
The Next Avatar Could Have a Connection to Korra
Most Avatars, as per detailed observation, share traits similar to their preceding title holder’s love interest. While this may be considered a coincidence, there is a strong chance that the case is far from it.
Taking Aang into consideration, he looked an awful lot like Ta Min, the wife of the Avatar before him, Roku. Similarly, Korra shares physical features curiously close to Katara, who becomes the ultimate love interest for Aang.
The unmistakable pattern suggests that the next Avatar may share a close resemblance to Korra’s love interest. In this case, it could be based on Asami’s features. Regardless of their gender, sharing physical features with the past Avatar’s significant others is not too far-fetched of speculation.
The next Avatar may have dark hair similar to that of Asami, perhaps even her green eyes. There has been a significant focus on love and the importance of it when it comes to the series.
Seeing that Avatars have connections to their past selves, or at least they used to, finding out that their successors share traits with that of their loved ones is more probable a theory.
