A rumor has recently sparked that The Mandalorian director Jon Favreau will leave the production if Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy won’t stop meddling with his plans. The news came from Overlord DVD on YouTube, who also mentioned instances where Kennedy and her team incessantly interfered with the director’s vision for the show.

Overlord DVD reports that Kennedy orchestrated Gina Carano’s exit from the show and canceled Rangers of the New Republic, where the actress was supposed to appear. She was also involved in several changes in the creative side of various Star Wars franchises.

Jon Favreau Is Rumored To Quit The Mandalorian Due To Lucasfilm President’s Incessant Meddling

The YouTuber mentioned that Kennedy was the mastermind in the revision of the scripts for The Book of Boba Fett, making sure that Grogu reunites with Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin despite the seemingly different ending at the finale episode of The Mandalorian Season 2. Overlord DVD also added:

Kennedy’s alleged next move against Favreau was corrupting The Book of Boba Fett. She couldn’t directly interfere with his production, but Kennedy is clever, devilishly clever.”

The commentator said when Kennedy knew that Robert Rodriguez planned to introduce the Vespas into The Book of Boba Fett, Favreau despised the idea. She took it into her hands and talked to the marketing department to convince them that it was a good selling point.

Favreau, dismayed and annoyed, threatened to quit The Mandalorian and go work on Ahsoka instead.

As a result, Favreau was so disgusted he said, ‘F*** it. Let them do whatever the hell they want. I’m going to go off and work on Ahsoka in peace.’

The rumor started to spread like wildfire, and it destroyed the narrative so much that the management had to call Favreau back to fix it. However, it was too late and the only thing they could do was to cut some lines from the script.

Din Djarin and Grogu’s reunion in Season 3 was not Favreau’s original plan. He initially wanted Grogu to go with Luke and train to become a Jedi. Overlord DVD commented:

It was a heartbreaking and final episode of Mandalorian Season 2 and it proved that Favreau had a master plan for all his series and it was a damn good plan.”

But, Kennedy was too keen on using Grogu as a marketing campaign, and she could not afford to lose Baby Yoda. According to the YouTuber, it is the “height of stupidity” that ruined all of Jon Favreau’s plans.

He believes this continuous meddling will eventually get on Favreau’s nerves and will walk away sooner or later. An anonymous source relayed to Overlord DVD that Favreau is “beyond frustrated and was ready to quit.” The director approached Bob Chapek and told him that he is finished and does not care about the contract. Favreau reportedly said:

You can give it to Kathy and let her hang it on her wall and watch a billion-dollar franchise burn.”

Chapek asked Favreau if there is anything he could do to make the director stay, and as expected, Favreau made himself clear that he wanted to do the third season the way he envisioned it.

In 2021, Favreau has nothing but admiration for Kennedy in the second episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian series. He claimed to be incredibly lucky working with Lucasfilm and Kennedy and that they are very supportive of one another. He also added:

Kathy Kennedy, we brought in very early on this conversation. And Kathy, first and foremost, is a great producer. And producers figure out ways to make things happen that are creatively exciting to the storytellers.”

The director commended the entire team, especially Kennedy, during the entire episode. He also said that producers like her understand the significance of telling great stories and doing them the right way. Whether the rumored conflict between Favreau and Kennedy rings true or not, fans hope this controversy won’t affect the quality of the series.

The Mandalorian Season 3 will arrive on Disney+ this March 1, 2023.
