Over the past few releases, Marvel has teased the audiences with references to the X-Men, and the possibility of them featuring in some capacity in the MCU. Following their mention in the post-credits scene of Dr Strange 2, the franchise looks to have adopted the same tactic in the trailer of The Marvels as well.
Will The X-Men Feature In The Marvels?
With The Marvels set to hit the big screen in the next few days, a new trailer of the upcoming film which has dropped online, is already creating quite a stir. Hawk-eyed Marvel fans noticed that there was a subtle but definite reference to the X-Men in the film, raising speculations about the possibility of the mutants featuring in the movie.
As viewed in the video in the last fifteen seconds, the caption ‘comes next’ appears on-screen, but gradually fades away to reveal the letter X which appears to remain a bit longer than the other words. This made many Marvel fans speculate about the possibility of the film introducing the X-Men.

Marvel has previously been known to have employed this tactic in Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, when the post-credits scene had an X-Men reference, but was unclear about where it was leading. The franchise also portrayed the Hulk as being part of the Wakanda Battle scene in the trailer of Avengers: Infinity Wars, but this too, ended up being a red herring.
Going by the history of these trailers, these small hints regarding the narrative of the mutants making it into the MCU, is still highly speculative. The release of The Marvels on 10th November will give a clearer picture of this possibility.
Netizens React To The Marvels’ X-Men Reference
The release of Brie Larson’s The Marvels is just a few days away, and the film is already creating a lot of debate online. In particular, a portion of the trailer indicating a possible X-Men introduction, is being discussed in detail by netizens. Many fans were of the opinion that the trailer felt like a desperate attempt to salvage Marvel’s damaged reputation in recent times, and the X-Men reference was an unwarranted effort to lure audiences in, following a poor pre-sales reception to the film.

The Marvels marketing really going for it in the home stretch here.
Some takeaways…
1. Feels like it sets up massive, possibly misleading MCU expectations (hope it delivers!)
2. There is definitely a solid spoiler
3. It’s easily the best trailer so far https://t.co/stMd2pvtsv— BD (@BrandonDavisBD) November 7, 2023
Trailer is a yikes from me. Too desperate.

I want to be excited. I enjoyed most projects, this one just doesn’t seem be hitting me. The world is also a mess so maybe it’s that as well. 🙏🏽🤘🏽

It feels weird that at first it was being promoted as a silly comedy and now it’s a movie that is gonna “change everything”. They either got a bit too creative with marketing and the movie won’t deliver or they did some post-production magic to actually make it a bit bigger

Claiming this is the best trailer so far when the first 20 seconds are old Marvel films is cringe

Hype up using a serious tone trailer, deliver a super silly movie/show. This is becoming a pattern with marvel. Hope it delivers but if this is misleading, it will only add to the overall disappointment.

With a lot riding on Marvel’s reputation after a few lukewarm efforts that did not go down well, The Marvels will face a trial by fire with audiences and critics, which will dictate the franchise’s path for the future.
The Marvels will be released worldwide on November 10th, 2023.
