From bagging an Oscar win for the dark Indie-thriller Room to becoming one of the strongest beings in the biggest franchise in Hollywood, Brie Larson hasn’t slowed down since the success of Short Term 12. But prior to becoming a notable face in the Indie landscape and then major blockbusters, she shared a pretty busy teenage phase, which saw her working on many projects, including 13 Going on 30 and Right on Track.
Following her experience of spending most of her time growing up in front of the camera, playing other characters, Larson was initially conflicted about signing up for Captain Marvel.
Brie Larson’s Past Experience Made Her Hesitant to Sign Up for Captain Marvel
Having spent most of her childhood playing with different people, Brie Larson had a difficult time finding her own identity. While she found playing those characters a blessing, considering she had been working in showbiz consistently since her childhood, it was “also confusing. And overwhelming”. Per MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios (via /Film), she said:
“I realized that if you’ve been acting since you were seven, there are a lot of stories inside you that are not actually yours. It’s a blessing to play all these different characters, but it’s also confusing. And overwhelming,”
And reasonably, when the offer to headline the strongest female superhero in the MCU, which would mean she had to return to play the character for several movies, Larson initially hesitated. But despite being conflicted, she ultimately decided to play a hero, as it was the “perfect way to take advantage of the blurry boundaries between her art and her identity was to play a hero.”
Brie Larson on Her Potential Future as Captain Marvel
While the Oscar-winner once hesitated to headline one of the strongest Avengers, Brie Larson has come to love her Marvel counterpart and is optimistic about her future in the MCU. With Larson expressing that she loved Carol’s growth in The Marvels, stating “It’s like, as I am growing she is growing,” the actor stated there’s a possible story to tell about her character moving forward. She told ET:
“I don’t want Marvel to come for me. But there is something. There is definitely something, to answer your question, that I would want to say, but I am not going to.”
Although time will tell what Captain Marvel has stored for her moving forward, MCU isn’t the lone billion-dollar franchise she has under her belt, as she is also expected to return for the next Fast and Furious.
