2022 was a year full of ups and downs for a lot of people, especially Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The DCU debut which he was super excited about, Black Adam, didn’t do too well at the box office. Adding to the disappointment, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new slate for the superhero universe’s future didn’t seem to have the antihero as a priority, putting both the actor and Black Adam’s DCU future in a haze.

However, Dwayne Johnson seems to be more positive than ever as he navigates through the failures he has encountered in his career. While the WWE legend/actor didn’t specifically mention Black Adam in his new Instagram post, people can’t help but link the two together. According to him, having the guts to fail in the course of whatever you are doing is far greater than the desire for success.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted a video on his Instagram where he talked about the failures and successes of one’s life. In the video, he talked about his friend Inky Johnson who is a motivational speaker, and mentioned that he has a grounding perspective and “keeps it real.” Johnson added that his friend talks about having the guts to fail and how he could relate to his words.

In the caption of the video, Johnson clarified that wanting to be successful is an attractive thing and on the other hand, failing is quite uncomfortable and “f’n scary.” However, he continued that having the guts to fail put him in situations in his career where he set himself up for far greater wins.

“But guts over desire has served me all throughout my career – and when we put ourselves in positions to be uncomfortable – to have the guts to fail – we actually set ourselves up in a much more powerful way to WIN. It’s 2023. It’s our year. Guts over desire.”

This comes after Variety reported that Johnson had made a few people at the WB Studios angry with his heavy demands all of which didn’t reap any fruits as Black Adam failed at the box office. Johnson seems to have gotten over it and is now onto bigger and better things, ready to grab every chance in 2023 he can! Thanks to the post, fans cannot wait to see the projects he has in store for 2023.

Black Adam’s Underwhelming Response

DC’s Black Adam, backed by the star power of The Rock was released in all its glory. Unfortunately, even after years of anticipation and several months of extensive movie promotions, Black Adam failed to light up the box office. With a humongous estimated budget of $190-260 million, the movie could only rake in $392.9 million dollars in its entirety of box office run. The low numbers served as a huge disappointment to an already broken DC universe, joining the league of several under-performing DCU movies.

After James Gunn announced the new and upcoming DCU slate, fans were looking forward to what Johnson had to say about it all. A few days later, the Red Notice actor posted his statement on his social media talking about the future of Black Adam. He stated that while the movie focusing on the namesake character will not be a part of the “first chapter of storytelling” under the new slate, they will look for ways to incorporate Black Adam in future DC multiverse projects.

Simply stated, Black Adam’s future is uncertain in the DCU, and with reports about the actor switching to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who knows if Black Adam even has a future anymore?

You can stream Black Adam on HBO Max.
