Ahead of the recently released Scream VI, Courteney Cox reflected upon her return to the big screen with her role as the ever-sassy Gale Weathers. With major appreciation for the script and her character, Cox was the first cast member to sign up to return and was even willing to do it for free, if needed.
Courteney Cox Was Willing to Reprise Her Scream VI Role for Free
After navigating into the big screen from TV shows, Courteney Cox had a fun experience playing the role of the “ruthless” reporter and author Gale Weathers in the Scream franchise. The actress thereafter appeared in all five installments of the film series, until they planned to make the sixth sequel.
Apparently, when the plans for Scream VI, first began, Courteney Cox made it clear that he was highly available to reprise her role. Teasing the return of her Scream character in the recently released sixth installment, Cox expressed her appreciation for the script and her character.
“I don’t know about contracts and where things are, but I’ll tell you in the script — it’s a really good one,” Cox told ET.
According to IMDb, it has been reported that the actress was so excited to reprise her role as Gale Weathers, that she even agreed to do it for free. During other interviews and podcasts, Courteney Cox even mentioned that she was “excited” to get to work.
Courteney Cox Was The First Cast Member to Sign Up for a Return
By the time Courteney Cox took on big screen roles, she had already turned into a global icon due to her role in FRIENDS as Monica Geller. Her appearance in the beloved TV series was so appreciated that the actress along with the rest of the cast was even offered $1M per episode for the last two seasons.
However, despite being a renowned celebrity with a massive fortune, Courteney Cox agreed to reprise her Scream role as Gale Weathers for free. Her excitement and dedication towards the role even landed her the opportunity way ahead of others. According to IMDb reports, Cox was the first cast member to sign up to return.
Eventually, Cox appeared in the movie alongside Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and others. Although she was upset about doing the horror mystery without Neve Campbell, she stole the show like always with her appearance as the ever-sassy Gale Weathers.
