Jodie Comer Was Terrified to Cover Mariah Carey’s Fantasy in Free Guy
Jodie Comer starred in Ryan Reynolds’ wholesome action comedy Free Guy in 2021. The film had many pop culture easter eggs throughout the film and Comer contributed to one of the film’s most surprising elements. The actress did a cover of Mariah Carey’s hit song Fantasy for the film. The actress talked to ScreenRant about her experience in getting to cover such an iconic track.
Comer revealed that it was all Reynolds’ idea after they had finished shooting the film. She expressed that the pressure was terrifying yet fun and she recorded her version in LA. She said,
“It came from a text of Ryan’s because this was months and months after we finished. He was like, “Would you be up for singing a Mariah Carey song over this part of the film?” Which is such a beautiful part of the film.
He kind of sent me a template, and I was like, “Yeah, okay.” I went to L.A., and we recorded it in Capital Records, I think it was. They were like, “The Beatles have sung in here, and The Rolling Stones.” I was like, I got it for free. No, it was terrifying. But it was great.”
