Jonathan Majors’ conviction on grounds of reckless assault and harassment has not only cost him his role as the multiversal conqueror, Kang, in the MCU, but a host of other projects that have now replaced him with other talents.
While many of these replacements are being made public, many of them are trying to keep it quite hush-hush, trying to draw as little attention as possible, perhaps to distance Majors from projects that do not wish to gain publicity from the situation.
Corey Hawkins has taken over from Jonathan Majors in a key project
Andscape, a production company under Diseny+ ESPN, has chosen Corey Hawkins to replace, Deadline reports. Jonathan Majors in their upcoming thriller, Man in my Basement, based on a novel of the same name, written by Walter Mosley. The film is to be directed by Nadia Latif, who has done films like White Girl (2019) and They Heard Him Shout Allahu Akbar (2021).
The film is also set to star Willem Dafoe, who, along with Corey Hawkins, is the only casting announced for the film so far. The film follows a man who is on the verge of losing his ancestral home, and down on his luck, only to be approached by a European man who offers to give the man shelter in a basement.
The film had initially cast Jonathan Majors but has since quietly replaced him with Hawkins, owing to the host of legal issues that have come Majors’ way. As mentioned earlier, Majors has also lost out on his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the character of Kang and its future up in the air.
Jason David Washington is rumored to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang
As Jonathan Majors is squarely out of the MCU, Jason David Washington is reportedly being eyed as a replacement for the actor in the MCU. While there is no official update from Marvel about the fate of Kang the Conqueror, fans are split on what should be the way ahead for Marvel. While a significant amount of the fandom wants to go ahead with the multiverse saga while removing Kang, a lot of them see this as a golden opportunity when to adjust the narrative completely.
Majors’ exit from many key projects in Hollywood comes at a time when the industry is gearing up for production on various projects. As films move closer to production dates, more news is expected to come out about casting and such, especially from those who wish to distance themselves from the actor. There is bound to be a slew of casting announcements for Majors’ former projects soon.
