Quentin Tarantino brought out his directorial talent once again in 2015 with The Hateful Eight which featured an ensemble cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Many were surprised to witness the authenticity the actors displayed on-screen however, to everyone’s surprise, the chilly movie pushed actors to face the cold environment for real.

The actors were freezing on the set which the Star Wars actor revealed during an interview with Variety. He shared that they “rehearsed this movie to hell.” As per him, “all the rehearsal was perfect” but the outdoor condition was quite much different.

He shared,

“The snow added an urgency of ‘I really don’t want to be out here.'”

After doing the exterior scenes, the director didn’t let his actors go off the hook.

“Quentin kept the cold. He actually refrigerated the stage. The whole stage was refrigerated.”

To make their scenes more realistic, the Pulp Fiction director asked actors to drink hot tea to make their breath visible. This is not the only time that he went to extreme lengths for his movie as he once convinced Uma Thurman to perform a stunt which eventually ended up harming her.

After working in the internationally acclaimed Pulp Fiction, Uma Thurman reunited with the director to play the role of the Bride in the Kill Bill series. However, she had to go to several lengths to wrap up the filming which included performing a car stunt sequence that eventually led her to get hurt. Thurman was quite skeptical about the particular sequence but she mentioned,

“He said, ‘I promise you the car is fine. It’s a straight piece of road…. Hit 40 miles per hour or your hair won’t blow the right way and I’ll make you do it again.’”

It turned out to be otherwise as she continued,

“But that was a deathbox that I was in. The seat wasn’t screwed down properly. It was a sand road and it was not a straight road.”

That infamous car crash caused her permanent injuries to her neck and knees. Later, she admitted that the filmmaker was remorseful over what happened to her on the set.
