CD Projekt Red is currently working on numerous titles, including The Witcher 4. The title will continue the story after the fan favorite, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. The nearly flawless RPG is easily one of the most polished games of this generation. It has become one of the most iconic titles, mixing a solid plot with fluid gameplay and stunning visuals, from fighting monsters with your silver sword to slaying humans.
After having released Cyberpunk 2077, which was bashed for being unoptimized and containing game-breaking glitches, the experience has become very bitter for gamers. Now, after the game was almost completely fixed with loads of patches and the famous 2.0 update, an expansion was also released, garnering critical acclaim. It also featured the likes of Idris Elba, one of the most famous Hollywood actors currently.
CD Projekt Red seems to be gearing up for its next entry in The Witcher series, The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris. The preparations have seemingly begun, and CD Projekt Red is devoting almost half of its workforce towards the title’s development. This was released in the studio’s latest earnings report.
CD Projekt Red’s Financial Report Unveils Insights on The Witcher 4, Studio’s Proficiency, and Upcoming Ventures
The studio, based out of Poland, has been widely regarded as one of the studios known to create not just games but experiences that the masses appreciate and leave an impact. Truly setting the standard for the industry with games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series, the studio is all set to add another entry to its portfolio.
One can access the earnings report for Q3 2023 for Projekt Red here. Starting with the sales statistics, the report mentions the Cyberpunk 2077 sales figures and states that the game has sold 4.3 million copies since launch with a 20% attachment ratio. After that, the positive reviews that the game has accumulated recently, thanks to the fixes, have been mentioned in the report. This is followed by the nominations for the title and the awards won by it so far.
The next page shows significant detail regarding the studio’s current workforce for The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, with almost 50 percent of it dedicated to the game. The game entered the state of pre-production last year. Another project in development appears to be Sirus by The Molasses Flooded, which will be a The Witcher chapter and take its own route. There is also a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel currently in development. The entire list of CD Projekt Red’s projects is as follows:
- Sirus (another game using The Witcher IP)
- Polaris (The Witcher 4)
- Canis Majoris (the first game in another The Witcher trilogy, which CD Projekt Red will not develop)
- Orion (sequel to Cyberpunk 2077)
- Hadar (a new game based on an original IP from CD Projekt Red)
It seems like CD Projekt Red is gearing up for many new releases and has an entire roadmap already planned for itself. It is most certainly good news for fans of the studio’s titles, as it means they will receive games from the studio for the foreseeable future.
Also, The Witcher 4 is set to use new technology based on Unreal Engine 5, as announced by CD Projekt Red in a post on its official website. The studio is also developing new technology based on Epic Games’ flagship game engine.
Polaris will continue the trilogy story right where it ended with the third game. The third game in the series is an absolute masterpiece, widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. The stakes are undoubtedly high for the studio as it prepares to reach for the stars and fortify its historical place.
At the same time, the game probably won’t hit the shelves for another three to five years. The title is likely going to be worth the wait. While it is relatively uncertain what Polaris will do differently and how it will carry on Geralt’s tale, there is hardly any information regarding the title because it seems to be in very early stages, as reports suggest.
It will be interesting to see if the studio can avoid another Cyberpunk 2077 launch situation with the title, especially because Unreal Engine 5 has been infamous for introducing some hassles in the development process.
