The Met Gala has always been a luxurious event. It is the event of both a fashion extravaganza and a fundraiser. Designers buy tables to support the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the majority of celebrities walk the red carpet as guests of the designer who is hosting their table.

In 2018, Scarlett Johansson’s outfit shocked people as she went for Marchesa a design house that was gone from A-list favorite to a brand Hollywood royalty were afraid to touch. Georgina Chapman, the designer, and co-founder of the brand, was the ex-wife of Harvey Weinstein.

During that year, Weinstein was in the limelight for his scandal. Even though Georgina Chapman, who was Weinstein’s then-wife, declared her separation from him after the allegations arose, celebrities suddenly stopped wearing Marchesa, the fashion label she cofounded with Keren Craig.

Johansson, being a strong supporter of feminism chose the particular designer for her Met Gala look. The Black Widow star wore an off-shoulder ombré gown with appliquéd blooms and a watteau train.

Chapman’s line made a comeback on the red carpet, all credit to the Under the Skin star. Many questioned the Lucy star for publicly supporting Chapman’s designs. While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress said,

“I wore Marchesa because their clothes make women feel confident and beautiful, and it is my pleasure to support a brand created by two incredibly talented and important female designers.”

Johansson is the first famous person to wear the brand to a noteworthy event, given that she attended the Met Gala.
