Pedro Pascal on His Exhausting Role in The Mandalorian

Pedro Pascal took on the role of Din Djarin, aka The Mandalorian in the Disney+ show in 2019. He has reprised his role in three seasons and is also expected to return in the fourth season of the show as well. However, during The Hollywood Reporter’s Actors Roundtable discussion, he revealed how exhausting putting on the suit can be and how it impacted his body. He said,

“There was an extended amount of experimentation, being in the suit for a lot of it, and frankly, my body wasn’t up for the task as far as, like, the four months of it.”

He also shared that while he was in the suit for a “significant amount” of time, the makers figured a way around it by having a stunt double in the suit, and Pascal had to do the voice-over. He shared that it also gave him the opportunity and time for other projects.

Talking about someone else embodying the character of Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, he said, “I think that there are things that you have to let go of in terms of what can be an OCD level of attention to detail.” While it has been doing great, his absence from the set has led to assumptions that Pascal might not return to the show.

A still from The Mandalorian

Considering his busy schedule ahead, which includes The Last of Us Season 2 and numerous movies, the actor could opt out of returning to The Mandalorian. While no such claims have been made, the studio might be considering a permanent resolution to the situation, prominently leading to the recasting of the character.

Fans Might Also Not See Din Djarin’s Face in Season 4

The Mandalorian season 1 and season 2 do feature some instances where the character takes his helmet off. However, with Pedro Pascal’s role being “mostly a voice-over gig for Season 3,” reports now suggest that this trend might continue for the show’s next season as well.

Not only does he have a busy schedule, but Pascal is also rumored to join the MCU as Mr. Fantastic. If he lands the role, it would only limit his presence in the series and it is assumed to have a potential impact on the series creatively.

The first two seasons featured some key moments with unmasked Din Djarin, and these moments helped to add depth and emotion to the narrative, particularly during the rescue of Grogu and their heartfelt farewell. Fan complaints about the character’s strict adherence to not removing the helmet have also circulated. While nothing is certain, it is speculated that it could eventually lead to a recasting.
