Robert Pattinson is the ace of the aces in nearly every angle: be it in terms of his looks, his acting, or simply his charming personality. While he is one of the most recognized celebrities in Hollywood, his first big and career-defining role still ranks as his most popular role to date as fans just can’t get over his charismatic portrayal of Edward Cullen in the superhit The Twilight Saga film series. But little do fans know that he wasn’t their only favorite actor in line to play the vampire.

As astonishing as it might be, Oppenheimer actor Josh Peck, too, was in line to play Cullen. However, despite being in the top four options for the role, Peck doesn’t regret losing the career-defining part to Robert Pattinson for a strangely understandable reason.

Although Josh Peck made his film debut back when he was only 13, he rose to prominence only years later for his role as Josh Nichols in Nickelodeon’s superhit sitcom Drake & Josh in 2004, whom he continued to play till 2008. However, had it not been for Robert Pattinson, The Twilight Saga‘s Edward Cullen might have been his career-defining role.

During a recent episode of his GOOD GUYS Podcast, the Oppenheimer star revealed the same.

“I remember it’s like 2006? [2007]?” Peck recalled. “They’re like, ‘Audition for this movie, “Twilight,” it’s based on a book and it’s going to be great.’ So I sent in my tape, for Edward. A month later, I’m with my manager and he goes, ‘It’s down to you and three guys, you’re close.’”

Continuing, he let out how dazed he was by this news, and even more so when he saw Pattinson in the role.

“I’m like, ‘Really?’ I hadn’t even had a tummy tuck yet,” Peck said. “I’m like, ‘There’s no way. He’s got to be so shirtless, it’s not going to happen.’ Spoiler alert — didn’t get it… But I remember then seeing R-Patz [Robert Pattinson] playing this part I’m like, ‘In what f****** world were they like, okay here’s what we’re thinking: Chris Hemsworth or Stanley Tucci?’ Like what the f***? Impossible! Impossible!”

Thus, despite losing the role that would have gotten him to ultra heights, Josh Peck doesn’t regret it: all thanks to Robert Pattinson’s immaculate acting!

Robert Pattinson might have started acting at a theatre club at the age of 15 and even bagged the beloved role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at the age of 19 in 2005, yet his most prominent and career-defining role is still regarded as that of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga.

Not only did he perfectly portray the character opposite Kristen Stewart, but he also made his big breakthrough with the same. His immaculate performance ended up breaking the book-based movie series big at the box office, and for over a decade, he was recognized by the prominent role of the charming vampire.

Even now, years later, when he has bagged numerous bigger roles like that of DC’s Dark Knight in Matt ReevesThe Batman, fans still regard the Edward Cullen character, that he played for over four years straight till 2012 in five installments from The Twilight Saga as his most popular role to date–to the point where they can’t even imagine anyone else playing the vampire but Robert Pattinson!
