Ana de Armas’ meteoric rise in Hollywood has been a treat to watch. The actress has almost made herself a Netflix staple and has worked with famed directors like The Russo Brothers. That’s not all. She has also become part of popular franchises like John Wick and James Bond.
Armas will star in the upcoming John Wick spin-off called Ballerina. As for James Bond, she has already starred as Paloma in No Time to Die with Daniel Craig. But since that was Craig’s last outing as the super spy, producers of the James Bond films are now looking for the next 007. So how about introducing a female Bond? Ana de Armas isn’t on board with that idea.
No Time To Die Alum Ana De Armas Doesn’t Want A Female James Bond
In an interview with The Sun, Ana de Armas stated that she isn’t interested in seeing a female James Bond. Explaining her reason for saying so, the actress said that there’s no need for a woman to steal the mantle of a famous male character. She said:
“There’s no need for a female Bond. There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over. This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.”

After Daniel Craig announced his departure from the James Bond franchise, there have been unending rumors about who will take over as the new spy. Names like Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and more have been thrown around. But there was also speculation about a female James Bond taking over.
However, Barbara Broccoli, a longtime producer of the Bond films, shot that theory down. She too stated that there’s no need for a female James Bond. In a 2018 interview with The Guardian, she said, “Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.” So what do Barbara Broccoli and Ana de Armas want to see instead?

In the interview, Ana de Armas stated that she would much rather see the next James Bond film flesh out the supporting female characters better. The actress said:
“What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way. That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”

Barbara Broccoli in her The Guardian interview echoed similar feelings. She said, “Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.” A lot of fans of the franchise agreed with the sentiment that the female characters need to be written better in the films. It remains to be seen if there’s any improvement in the next James Bond film.
