It’s been nearly a decade since Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow hit the theatres and turned into a box office bonanza. Making fans hooked to the screen, the movie successfully acquired a massive viewership with fans looking for an immediate sequel. And certainly, conversations around Edge Of Tomorrow 2 sounded quite promising.
However, on a recent note, Emily Blunt spoke with Variety and shared disappointing updates with fans surrounding Edge Of Tomorrow 2. Stating how director Doug Liman and Tom Cruise are eager to return for a sequel, Blunt mentioned that it is rather difficult to hit it off.
Fans Have Been Waiting for Edge Of Tomorrow 2
Following the success of the original sci-fi Edge Of Tomorrow (2014), featuring Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) forced to take part in a landing operation against invading alien troops, the movie turned into a box office blast. Teaming up with Emily Blunt’s war hero Rita to find a way to stop the invasion, the movie focused on Cruise’s combat skills and stunned the audiences.
Containing elements of thrills and requirements of a blockbuster, Edge Of Tomorrow ended up becoming one of the fan-favorite sci-fi movies of all time. And ever since its release, fans have been waiting for its sequel to drop and yet again entertain the audiences. Certainly, there have been steady talks about a second installment of the film, ever since the first movie became a big-time success.
Emily Blunt, Tom Cruise, and the director of the film Doug Liman have been eagerly waiting to serve the audiences with a sequel. However, there has been little to no progress with the storyline and production of the film. It’s been almost a decade since the first movie was released, and yet fans are still waiting patiently for Edge Of Tomorrow 2.
Emily Blunt Shared Disappointing Sequel Updates
Finally, Emily Blunt addressed fans’ curiosity over the 2014 movie’s sequel and admitted that she has been speaking with Doug Liman. During her discussion with Variety, the actress stated that Tom Cruise has been eagerly waiting to reprise his role as Major William Cage, just like Blunt has been waiting to return as Rita.
However, despite their willingness to return, there have been certain issues with the plot of the sequel that cannot be ignored. According to Emily Blunt, as she has been speaking with the director, the actress admitted that they are facing age issues with the scripts. Blunt acknowledged that any script that may exist today, wouldn’t be able to work.
“Doug [Liman] and I talk all the time about it. I know Tom wants to do it, hopefully, at some point. But it’s timing, but it’s also been 10 years since we made it. There was an amazing script in the works, but I think it would only have worked if we shot it eight years ago. I’m not saying we’re that ancient, but you have to factor in it’s been 10 years.”
Stating how times have changed and it has become difficult for movies to thrive at the box office, Emily Blunt shared disappointing updates with fans about Edge Of Tomorrow 2. The actress clarified that they wouldn’t be proceeding with a sequel until they land a good script that will succeed in today’s day and age.
