The world suddenly turned into a much cruel and cold place the moment the Quiet on Set docuseries came out about the horrendous working conditions for children on the set of Nickelodeon shows. From racism to s*xual abuse and toxic workplace conditions, many former child actors and crew have spoken up on how the sets really were behind the happy facade of the many TV shows.
After shocking revelations about Amanda Bynes and Drake Bell’s heartbreaking story, another Nickelodeon star spoke up. Not included in the docuseries, Amber Frank has made a pretty disturbing allegation against Nickelodeon, which suffice to say will shock the fans even more.
Amber Frank Ones Up About Nickelodeon Sets
Over the years shows like All That, The Amanda Show, iCarly, Victorious, and more have been an integral part of every millennium child. Not only did these shows serve as entertainment but many of them had that look of a safe and happy environment that made them even more watchable while going through the turbulent teen life.
Yet with the airing of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV everything seems to have changed. Not only did the cast and crew on set open up about how the studio failed to protect them, but Dan Schneider, former Producer, was referred to by many as allegedly being toxic and problematic.
But the biggest revelation was about Amanda Bynes‘s alleged close relationship with Schneider, and Drake Bell‘s revelation of s*xual abuse he suffered at the hands of his former dialogue coach, Brian Peck, who was later convicted and jailed. And now Amber Frank, from Nickelodeon’s The Haunted Hathaways revealed through her Instagram stories what she experienced on set,
“Nickelodeon sent computers over to production when we were starting filming the show and when they were turned on there was child p*rn on them. Nobody was held accountable. There was no investigation…It’s beyond heartbreaking to know that a company that was employing children failed miserably at protecting them.”
Just like how a single water drop can create endless ripples in the vast ocean, the airing of Quiet on Set has had the same effect. And it seems only time will tell the true magnitude of what went on the sets of many of our beloved Nickelodeon shows.
Meanwhile, Nickelodeon Responds To The Many Allegations
Right after the docuseries went viral, many other child actors not part of it spoke up about their experiences while on the set of countless Nickelodeon shows (see Entertainment Weekly). While Dan Schneider released a statement to THR and later posted a 19-minute-long video answering and apologizing to the allegations, Nickelodeon had its own statement to give.
“Though we cannot corroborate or negate allegations of behaviors from productions decades ago, Nickelodeon as a matter of policy investigates all formal complaints as part of our commitment to fostering a safe and professional workplace environment free of harassment or other kinds of inappropriate conduct. Our highest priorities are the well-being and best interests not just of our employees, casts and crew, but of all children, and we have adopted numerous safeguards over the years to help ensure we are living up to our own high standards and the expectations of our audience.”
Stated the network to BuzzFeed. While the Quiet on Set documentary would say otherwise, only time will tell how the allegations are dealt with or whether they will end up being brushed under the carpet.
